Day 3: One of the kids has been very interested in Pokemon lately, so Ms. Morgan looked up the signs for his favorite Pokemon and taught them to the class.
Pokeball
Flareon
Pikachu
Charizard
Day 6: I brought a new friend to the mostly English classroom. They have a class pet named Ella, so I wanted to surprise the kids with her long-lost sister Bella. They loved her so much that I decided to let them keep her. Bella is definitely more loved at OSD.
Day 8: Both the ASL classroom and English classroom take time to allow the kids to move their bodies and get all their sillies out. I like these videos because they are extremely visual, and children from both classes can easily follow the directions.
I like participating in the videos with the kids, though it can be tiring. It is a bit of a workout, but they love it.
This is one of their favorite videos!
Day 11: I was sitting next to one of the kids during calendar time, and she tapped my shoulder and signed, "I love you." I was shocked at first, and for some reason, I didn't realize she was saying it to me until 10 seconds later. She signed it again, and I signed it back. It made me feel so happy and surprised because this particular student had taken a while to warm up to me. This is what makes me feel alive during service. Making those connections with the kids as we become more comfortable with each other.
I love receiving hugs from my girls when I arrive in the morning. Even if they hug me before washing their hands in the bathroom (this has happened a couple of times). We have a special bond and I am very thankful for that!
