Adoption

Step 1

First, check out all of currently adoptable kittens in one place on our PetFinder page! Each profile includes pictures and a bio written by the kittens current foster.

Can't choose? Our adoptions coordinators are always happy to make recommendations based on your lifestyle and kitten personalities!

Step 2

Next, complete an application! Our application will ask you a few questions about your home, lifestyle, and plans for your new feline family member. Our adoptions team will follow up with you via email within 72 hours!

Step 3

After your application has been approved, the foster of the kitten(s) you're interested in will reach out to you to set up a meet and greet!

If you meet and fall in love, great! The foster and vet student coordinator can advise you on how to finalize the adoption.

If you meet and it's not a good fit, don't worry! Reach back out to our adoptions team and we can set you up with another kitten, no additional application needed.

FAQ

How long does the process take?

The adoptions team will reach out to you within 72 hours of your application. Once your application is approved, it may take a few days for the foster to reach out to set up a meet and greet. Feel free to reach out to the adoptions team if you haven't heard from a foster within four days of your application being approved!

How much does it cost to adopt?

Our adoption fee is $120. If you adopt two or more kittens at once, this is reduced to $100 per kitten. If the cat is over 8 months old, the fee is $80. adoption fee can be paid to the Orphan Kitten Project in cash, check, or Venmo (@ucd-OKP). This fee covers the costs of spay/neuter surgery, deworming, FeLV and FIV testing, a full FVRCP vaccination series, and a microchip with registration.

Will I need additional veterinary services?

Orphan Kitten Project is honored to care for special kittens with chronic conditions who will require continued medical attention at your regular veterinarian. If you are interested in any of these kittens our team would love to discuss requirements or expectations so that you are confident and comfortable when adopting.

For kittens without chronic medical conditions additional veterinary services may include completion of a vaccination series depending on age and an annual exam. In either case, we recommend taking all new pets to your regular veterinarian to establish a relationship early on so there is no lapse in preventative care and they are more familiar with your pet when they’re not feeling like themselves!
