Disease is the major limiting factor for the growth in global shrimp farming industry, one of the fastest growing aquaculture sectors in the world. Shrimp aquaculture plays an increasingly important role in global food security as the output in wild fisheries declines and the size of the middle-class, hence demand for high protein quality, expands in developed and developing countries. Thailand is one of the world leading shrimp export nations where the supply chains of the export industry is central to the livelihood of grass root economy in rural areas.
My interdisciplinary laboratory at Centex Shrimp focuses on the discovery of newly emerging shrimp pathogens using state-of-the-art technology. Our strength is our extensive collaboration with industry and farmers as well as a network of shrimp health expert through the International Network of Shrimp Diseases (INSH).
