Orlando draws 70+ million visitors a year, and most never leave the theme-park bubble. The parks are worth it — but the best Orlando trips mix a few park days with the Central Florida most tourists miss.
The theme parks
- Walt Disney World: four theme parks (Magic Kingdom, EPCOT, Hollywood Studios, Animal Kingdom), two water parks, and Disney Springs. Plan at least 3–4 days.
- Universal Orlando Resort: Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure, and the Epic Universe theme park, plus CityWalk nightlife.
- SeaWorld Orlando: coasters plus marine life; Discovery Cove next door offers an all-inclusive swim-with-dolphins day.
- LEGOLAND Florida (Winter Haven): perfect for ages 2–12, about 45 minutes south.
Beyond the parks
- The Wheel at ICON Park: the 400-foot observation wheel on International Drive, best ridden at sunset.
- Airboat rides: the Everglades-style headwaters are 45 minutes south — alligators guaranteed.
- Natural springs: Wekiwa Springs and Blue Spring State Parks — 72-degree crystal water for swimming, kayaking, and manatee spotting in winter.
- Gatorland: the self-billed "Alligator Capital of the World" — half-day, genuinely fun.
- Golf: 150+ courses, from Disney's championship tracks to ChampionsGate's 36 holes.
- Shopping & dining: the Orlando International Premium Outlets, the Mall at Millenia, and Restaurant Row on Sand Lake Road.
Easy day trips
- Kennedy Space Center Visitor Complex (about 1 hour east): rockets, the Space Shuttle Atlantis, and occasional live launches.
- Cocoa Beach (about 1 hour): the closest Atlantic surf to Orlando.
- Bok Tower Gardens (about 1 hour southwest): the Singing Tower and 250 acres of gardens.
