Difference between New Orleans Tours

What’s the Difference Between Ghost Walking Tour, (Ghost tour) A Night time Cemetery Tour, A daytime Cemetery Tour, and a Voodoo Tour.

I responded to a post recently so I thought I'd do my own to clarify the difference between a Ghost Walking Tour, (Ghost tour) A Night time Cemetery Tour, A daytime Cemetery Tour, and a Voodoo Tour.

And I'd like to address the folx who dislike and make fun of these tours when things like this get posted. It's completely ok for you to not want to go on these types of tours. As I say in my tours, I am not trying to convert you, it's always a matter of belief. If this isn't for you, I encourage you to scroll on.

Ghost Walks (Ghost Tours)-These are hour-and-a-half two-hour walking tours. You'll be walking and hearing the history and lore of the town. Every tour company is different with different styles. Most will give you some historical framework. You'll walk about a mile.

Night Time Cemetery Tours.-These bus-based tours will lead you to Mid City/ Almost all will lead you to Charity Hospital Cemetery (fields of mass graves) and the Katrina Memorial. Then most have a halfway stop at Morning Call. Then several go to above-ground cemeteries. I can't speak for all but New Orleans Ghost Adventures goes to Odd Fellow's Rest. They typically take a total of two hours with minimal walking.

*There are Haunted Pub Crawls. Similar to the Ghost Tours but with the focus on drinking rather than stories. You’ll usually get 1/3 to 1/2 of the stories you’d get on a Ghost Tour but a lot more drinking options. Some include a free drink or shot. (On a personal note-I mean for me , as a guide,  unless I’m leading a private small group tour I specifically avoid these. The odds of at least one or more belligerent guests is quite high).

Voodoo Tour-Voodoo is a RELIGiON. There is nothing inherently scary about Voodoo. It's a sad fact that most of the scary stories from pop culture we have about Voodoo are tied to the complexity of the racial injustice of the town's history. I understand the knee-jerk reaction to that. It feels wrong. Like we are drawn to those stories but they aren't part of the authentic narrative. And in a society that seeks connection and community most of the tour guides who lead Voodoo tours aren't going to drag it. Just like they wouldn't drag your religion. So before you comment in the negative, remember 19% of this town holds this faith. Be kind. You'll end up in Congo Square and by where Marie Leavau's cottage USED to be.

Daytime Cemetery Tours- Everyone wants to go to St Louis #1. The Archdiocese is the only one with access due to decades of vandalism. Everyone wants Lafayette #1, and it's also closed to the public due to vandalism. And it's not typically the locals. I've personally called the cops on tourists vandalizing Lafayette #1. The desecration of New Orleans' dead by outsiders goes back to the early 1900s. Good news! You CAN indeed see many cemeteries on their own without paying anyone. St Louis #3 on Esplanade is approachable. Be smart about the heat. Know when it closes and make sure you understand where the exit is. Many companies offer Mid City Cemetery tours. Combining several notable cemeteries into a 1.5-hour experience. Most start at Morning Call. Easy access by Cable car or driving. Less than 3/4 mile of walking
