Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

Originality AI (also referred to as Originality Checker) is an unofficial Android writing workspace for students, writers, bloggers and content creators aged 16 and over. Package name: com.originalitycheckerr.app.

This version analyses text on your device with a local demo engine. We do not operate user accounts. We do not run our own backend that receives your drafts, documents, photos or scan results.

This Privacy Policy is written to meet Google Play’s User Data, Ads, Data safety, Permissions and APIs, and Families policies as they apply in 2026, together with COPPA, UK GDPR (as updated by the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025), EU GDPR, PECR and Google’s EU User Consent Policy. It is not legal advice.

The developer named on the Google Play store listing for Originality AI is the controller of this policy. Privacy contact: privacy@originalitychecker.app.

2. Unofficial app disclaimer

This app is unofficial and independent. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, sponsored by, or connected to Originality.AI, Originality.ai, or any related company, website, trademark or official product.

• We do not have access to Originality.AI accounts, credits, APIs or official scan results.

• The name “Originality AI” describes this independent Android tool only.

• Scan scores are local demo estimates generated on your device. They are not official Originality.AI reports and must not be treated as results from the official Originality.AI service.

• All trademarks and brand names belong to their respective owners and are used here only to identify this unofficial app.

If you need official Originality.AI features, please use that company’s own website or apps.

3. What this app does

You can type or paste text, import a document, photograph a page, or fetch a public webpage you enter. The app then produces local demo scores for AI detection, originality, grammar, readability, fact check and related writing tools. You can keep history, export a PDF report, back up a JSON file, and (in the free version) see ads.

Scan scores are estimates generated on the device. They are not legal, academic or employment decisions, and they are not proof of authorship.

4. Permissions we request

The app only asks for permissions needed for a feature you choose:

• INTERNET — to load ads, to fetch a URL you enter, and for Google Play services.

• ACCESS_NETWORK_STATE — to know if the device is online before ads or URL fetch.

• CAMERA — only when you tap Scan with camera, so you can photograph a printed page. Camera is optional; you can pick a file instead. We do not record video, we do not access the camera in the background, and we do not upload photos to our servers.

• AD_ID (Android Advertising ID) — used by Google AdMob to show and measure ads in the free version.

We do not request precise location, contacts, SMS, microphone, call logs, or broad photo-library access (READ_MEDIA_IMAGES / READ_MEDIA_VIDEO). Documents and photos are opened through the Android system picker (Storage Access Framework / OpenDocument) or a one-off camera capture.

5. Information stored on your device

When you use the app we may store locally (DataStore / app storage / cache):

• text you type, paste, import, or extract from a document, photo or URL

• file names and temporary copies of imported files in app cache while they are being read

• scan results, history (up to 80 items), saved reports, trash (recently deleted scans), favourites and citations

• writing goals, streaks, achievements, statistics and dashboard preferences

• theme, UK English, in-app scan confirmation preference, onboarding state and Premium Demo on/off

• document privacy-lock preference (this uses your existing device screen lock; we do not store a separate password)

• a local JSON backup only if you export one

This information stays on your device unless you choose to share it, export a backup, or Android Auto Backup is enabled on your device (see section 9). Uninstalling the app, or clearing app storage in Android settings, deletes this local data.

6. Camera, photos and documents (sensitive data)

Camera and document features are user-initiated. Photos and documents are personal and sensitive user data under Google Play’s User Data policy.

• Camera: used only to capture a still image of a page you point the camera at. The image is stored as a temporary file in app cache, text is read on the device with Google ML Kit Text Recognition, then the extracted text is analysed locally. We do not keep a photo library inside the app.

• Files: you may pick a PDF, Word (.docx), image (JPEG, PNG, WebP, HEIC and similar), .txt or .md file. The chosen file is copied into app cache so it can be read, then text is extracted on the device.

• We do not upload your photos or documents to our servers. We do not use them for advertising. We do not sell them.

• If you refuse camera permission, the rest of the app still works. You can paste text or pick a file instead.

7. On-device text recognition (ML Kit)

Optical character recognition uses Google ML Kit Text Recognition (Latin) on the device. Images are processed locally to extract text. Google’s ML Kit documentation states that this on-device recogniser does not send the image to Google for processing. Extracted text is then stored only as part of your local scan, if you keep it.

8. URL fetch

If you use URL Scanner, the app sends a GET request to the address you type, using the internet permission. The destination website (not us) receives a standard request including your IP address and a generic mobile browser user-agent. We read the page or PDF response on the device, convert it to text, and analyse it locally. We do not operate a proxy that stores that page for us.

Only fetch pages you are allowed to access. Pages you open may use HTTP or HTTPS. Do not enter addresses that contain secrets.

9. Information that can leave the device

We do not operate a server that collects your drafts. Data can leave the device only in these cases:

• Google AdMob ads (free version) — advertising identifiers and ad events, as described in section 10 and the Ads Privacy Policy.

• A URL you choose to fetch — sent to that website (section 8).

• Share / export — if you tap Share, Copy report or export a PDF, Android’s share sheet sends the file or text to the app or person you pick.

• Backup & restore — if you export a JSON backup, that file is written where you save it. Anyone with the file can read your local scans and settings.

• Android Auto Backup — the app allows Android backup (allowBackup). If backup is on in your device settings, Google may store app data (including local history) in your Google account according to Google’s backup terms. You can turn off backup in Android settings.

• Google Play services — required to initialise ads and consent.

We do not sell personal information. We do not share drafts with data brokers.

10. Information used for advertising

The free version contains ads served by Google AdMob (Google LLC), including banner ads, occasional full-screen (interstitial) ads after a scan, and rewarded ads where offered. If ads are shown, Google and its advertising partners may process:

• Android advertising ID (AAID)

• approximate device and app data (device type, OS, app version, language, time zone)

• IP address and coarse location derived from IP (we do not request location permission)

• ad interaction data (impressions, clicks, video completions)

• diagnostic data about ad requests

• identifiers stored on-device by the ads SDK, where permitted

We do not sell your drafts. We do not use your scan text, documents, camera images or reports to build an advertising profile. We do not join the advertising ID to your writing. Premium Demo turns ads off in the app; Google may still hold an advertising identifier on the device according to your system settings.

11. Legal bases (UK / EEA / Switzerland)

Where UK GDPR or EU GDPR applies:

• Strictly necessary local storage (history, settings, the document you asked us to analyse) is required to provide the service you request.

• Camera and file access happen only after you choose those features and, for camera, after you grant the runtime permission.

• Advertising, measurement and personalisation use consent where required, collected through Google’s User Messaging Platform (UMP), a Google-certified consent management platform.

• You may withdraw consent at any time from Settings → Ads and privacy → Manage ad preferences, and from your device ads settings.

In the United Kingdom, the Data (Use and Access) Act 2025 sits alongside UK GDPR. We still treat advertising as consent-based where the law and Google’s policies require it.

12. Children’s Privacy Policy

This Children’s Privacy Policy is part of this Privacy Policy. It explains how this unofficial app treats children under Google Play’s Families policy, COPPA (United States), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, and similar child-protection laws.

Who the app is for

• Originality AI is for users aged 16 and over only.

• It is not directed at children under 13 (or under 16 where that is the digital age of consent).

• It is not a Designed for Families app.

• It is not enrolled in Google Play’s Families programme.

• We do not knowingly allow children to create an account, because this app has no accounts.

What we do not do with children’s data

• We do not knowingly collect, use, share or sell personal information from children under 13.

• We do not ask children for name, email, phone number, home address or photos of a child.

• We do not use children’s drafts, camera images or documents for advertising.

• We do not show interest-based ads to children. This ads setup is for users 16+ and is not a Families Self-Certified Ads SDK configuration.

• We do not track children across apps or websites for marketing.

• We do not condition use of the app on a child providing more data than needed for a feature they asked for — and children should not use the app at all.

If a child uses the app by mistake

Because most data stays on the device, a parent or guardian should:

1. Uninstall Originality AI, or

2. Open Android Settings → Apps → Originality AI → Storage → Clear data, and

3. Email privacy@originalitychecker.app with the subject “Child privacy request”.

We will not keep a server copy of that child’s writing in this version, because we do not operate a collection server. We will help you delete remaining local or advertising data as far as we can.

Parents and guardians

If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 16 has used this app, contact privacy@originalitychecker.app. You may request that any personal information we can reasonably identify is deleted. We may ask you to confirm you are the parent or guardian before we act.

Age screening

Please do not use this app if you are under 16. Teachers and schools must not require students under 16 to install it. If we later add an age gate, users who indicate they are under 16 will be blocked from ads-personalised features or from the app.

This unofficial app is not a child-directed product and must not be listed as suitable for ages under 16 on Google Play.

13. How long we keep data and how you delete it

This app does not create accounts, so Google Play’s account-deletion web form does not apply. You remain in control of on-device data:

• Delete a single scan from History, or use Trash then Delete forever.

• Settings → Clear history removes local scans. Settings → Clear saved reports removes report flags.

• Empty Trash to permanently remove recently deleted items.

• Uninstall the app, or Android Settings → Apps → Originality AI → Storage → Clear data, to delete remaining local data including settings.

• Advertising identifiers are controlled by Google and your device settings (reset advertising ID / opt out of ads personalisation).

• If you exported a backup or shared a PDF, delete those files yourself; we cannot reach files you saved outside the app.

We do not keep a copy of your drafts on our servers in this version. Local history is capped (about 80 scans; about 40 trash items).

14. Sharing and third parties

We share or allow processing with:

• Google AdMob and its advertising partners — to show and measure ads (free version).

• Google ML Kit — on-device text recognition only.

• Google Play / Google Play services — app distribution, ads SDK and consent.

• The destination website when you fetch a URL.

• The app or person you choose when you tap Share, Copy or save a backup.

• Android system services required to open files, take a photo, or send intents.

We do not sell personal and sensitive user data. User-initiated sharing (Share sheet, backup export) is not a sale under Google Play’s User Data policy.

15. Security

We handle personal and sensitive data as follows:

• Drafts, photos and documents are processed on the device; we do not operate a server that stores them.

• Ad traffic uses Google’s HTTPS connections.

• Camera permission is requested at runtime only when you tap Scan with camera.

• Files are opened through the system picker, not by scanning your whole gallery.

• Temporary import files are stored in app cache.

• Document privacy lock, if you enable it, re-uses your device screen lock when you return to the app. It is not a cloud password.

• You should not paste passwords, payment card numbers, government IDs or other secrets into the editor.

No method of storage is 100% secure. If you use Android backup, your local data may also be stored with Google under Google’s security practices.

16. Your rights

Depending on where you live you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict or object to processing, and to data portability. Because most app data is stored only on your device, the practical way to access or erase it is through History, Settings, a backup export, or uninstalling the app. For advertising choices use Manage ad preferences and Android’s “Opt out of Ads Personalisation” setting.

You may complain to the ICO in the United Kingdom, or to your local data protection authority in the EEA. California residents may have additional rights under the CCPA/CPRA, including the right to know and to delete. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising from our own servers, because we do not operate those servers in this version. Google AdMob’s advertising practices are described in Google’s policies.

17. International transfers

Google may process advertising and Play services data in the United States and other countries. Google states that it uses appropriate safeguards for such transfers. See Google’s privacy policy. If you fetch a URL, that website’s own location and privacy policy apply.

18. Automated analysis

Scan scores (AI detection, originality, grammar, readability, fact check and similar tools) are local demo estimates produced on the device. They are not solely automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects. You should not treat them as proof of authorship, plagiarism, academic misconduct or factual truth.

19. Data safety summary (for Google Play Console)

Use this as a guide when you complete Play Console → App content → Data safety. It must match this policy.

Does the app collect user data that is sent off the device by us? No — we do not operate our own collection server.

Does the app share data with third parties? Yes, through SDKs and user actions:

• Device or other IDs (Advertising ID) — collected/shared by Google AdMob — purpose: Advertising or marketing — optional — users can opt out of ads personalisation.

• App activity related to ads (ad interactions) — AdMob — Advertising or marketing.

• Diagnostics (crash/performance of ad requests) — AdMob — Analytics / App functionality as applicable.

• Approximate location (from IP, by Google, not by a location permission) — AdMob.

• Photos / files — accessed on device only when you pick them or take a photo; not collected by us off-device.

• User-generated content (drafts, reports) — stored on device; leaves the device only if you share, export, fetch a URL you entered, or if Android backup is on.

Contains ads: Yes (free version).

In-app purchases: No real billing in this version (Premium is a local demo switch).

Account creation: No.

Data encrypted in transit: Yes for Google ads traffic (HTTPS).

Users can request deletion: Yes — clear history / uninstall; advertising ID via device settings.

Independent security review: No.

Target age: 16+. Not for children. Not Designed for Families.

20. Changes

We may update this policy when the app, ads setup or the law changes. The “Last updated” date will change. The current policy is always available in the app under Settings → Privacy Policy, and on the public HTTPS page linked in Play Console. Continued use after an update means you have read the revised policy.
