This pathetic world is all about hiding
People always seem to like hiding
Hiding behind a plan white mask
With only two soulless black eyes and a wide black smile decorating its features
Nothing more
Nothing less
Simply equal
And basic
Something easy to throw on and hide under
Why?
Because it’s so easy
Hiding behind a mask allows that privacy no one wants to share
Could it be the bright flag you carry on your shoulders? Hidden
Maybe it’s your dark skin that doesn’t match the others around you? Oh no. That’s hidden
Oh, it’s gotta be the definitions you use to describe what is or isn’t in your pants right? That’s gone and hidden to the default
If all else fails, surely your clunky form or skinny frame is the one being shown? Nope. That’s hidden as well
Of course, maybe you don’t like the mask you were given
Maybe it labels you as blue when you want to be pink
Maybe it’s too uncomfortable and tight and you can barely see out of it
Then you’ll want to take it off, yes?
Alright. Go right ahead.
Take the mask off
Burn it even
Maybe you’ll wanna shred the damn thing somehow
I don’t know
But what I do know is by you destroying that piece of privacy and secrecy, you have just left yourself wide open and ready to kill
The target is now shown right on your chest with your arms wide open
And now you’re shouting
Shouting “I am different! And I like it! So, live with it!”
Oh, you’re not going to stand a chance in this world, will you?
“Show how you’re different” right?
“Be you
Be different
Be unique
Be special
Be beautiful
Stand out, stand proud”
That’s what they’ll say right?
And you believe that too?
How cute honestly
That mask you just threw up some corporate jerk’s smirking face was just your reason for them to not cut you down like a tree
Only to be used for paper and whatnot, and then get thrown away and burned like nothing ever happened
Kinda like that mask you had
Look, fight me all you want on this
With all your beliefs of being unique and standing out and stuff but…
But…
Just…
They’re gonna…
They’re gonna hurt you….
Break you down to nothing and let no one build you back up
And that’s… that’s scary
Maybe you’ll say you can withstand it, sure, but…
Have you ever taken a bullet to the heart and withstood it?
Has anyone done that?
No… not that… not that I know of…
This world…
It’s broken
It’s falling
And it’s burning quickly
And through it all, the richest people want order
Want to keep things as simple and basic as they can
A straight white line that we walk to our grave is what they hope for
Maybe it’ll work
Maybe it won’t
I’m too lost to care anymore
But I do care about the people wanting to tear their masks off
Why?
Because…
Well, it all starts with… with a girl…
And she took that mask off like the world was singing Kumbaya
She showed that she was different and special
She held many hopes for the future and was ready to change the world to be brighter than ever
But…
she only watched that same world tear her apart like she wasn’t only a child
She almost died then
Who was that girl?
That girl was me
So….
Take your mask off? Stop hiding?
Well, you might die
But…
If you’re going down, I’ll come with
Take my mask, and burn it in hell
Cause I’m going down there as well
When they asked how I died,
I’ll show them the scars that bare my beauty
