The world is all about hiding

People seem to like hiding

It’s easy, it’s a simple escape 

Hiding from danger

Hiding from the past

Hiding from the future 

Hiding from the present

Hiding from the pain

Hiding from themselves 

Hiding behind a plan white mask

Everyone has a mask

How ironic, I know but it’s true

The same one in fact

Everyone shares the same colour, same look, same everything on their mask

Nothing special, because special is different and different is supposed to be bad

The world doesn’t like different 

Learn that they’ll say, learn how to be the same and blend in so you won’t be hurt

Now I’m not talking about a literal mask that you can physically see

More like A mask that hides who you are

It hides who you’re meant to be

Who you want to be

This plain white mask hides everything beautiful about a person

It hides their opinions

Beliefs 

Skin colour 

Love for others 

Genders

Body type even

If we try to take these hiding masks off we’ll be seen as… different 

Un-natural 

Un-normal 

Ugly even

It’s not right

Hiding yourself for other peoples pleasure isn’t right

You’re hurting yourself when you hide behind this mask

You’re hurting your health, not just mental health but sometimes physical health as well

You won’t notice you’re hurting because it’s fine 

People don’t care

I’m fine

Everyone says their fine but I know their not

I’m not fine

Who decided that being different was such a bad thing? 

Who decided that taking your mask off, showing who you are, is a bad thing?

Being different is a bad thing?

No. It’s not.

Being you is not a bad thing

Who said, to the entire world, 

“If you do something that’s different, so speak, you’ll be treated differently,”

Last time I checked, the only person that said that was yourself…

I tell myself these things

And the girl in the back

She tells herself these things 

And the boy in the front

He tells himself these things 

Hell, even the person who doesn’t identify that you’ve never met

They tell themselves these things 

Everyone tells themselves these things 

Take the mask off

Just take the mask and burn it

Take the mask and shred it 

Take the stupid mask and throw it at the world, throw it at society 

Say to the world, say to society 

“I am different! And I like it! So, Live with it!”

And if someone treats you differently, if they poke fun, if they tease you for just being you, being different, that’s because they don’t know how to take their own mask off

Show them how  

Show the world how

Show society how 

Be you

Be different 

Be unique 

Be special 

Be beautiful 

Stand out, stand proud 

Show your true scars of unbelievable beauty
