“Well, that’s unattractive.” Velvet states bluntly.
“What is this face darling?” Green scoffs with a cross of their arms.
“Garbage, that's what it is.” Red rolls their eyes.
“That’s kinda mean…” Yellow mutters softly. All Eyes focus on Yellow. Each one stared with disbelief.
“And?” Orange pushes with a sarcastic tone.
“And it hurts.” Yellow replies as they walk up to the screen and point to what’s shown.
A girl with brown hair looking at her reflection in the mirror is what they see. They’re in the first-person perspective of the girl. They can see her face is painted with dried tears stains on her red cheeks and puffy red-rimmed hazel eyes.
“She’s hurting.” Yellow reaches for the Emotions.
Green scoffs with a huff before smacking Yellow’s hand away. Yellow jumps and holds their hand close to their chest as Green leans into their space and speaks. “That’s the point.”
“If we don’t realize how terrible she looks, she won’t be willing to fix it. Which in turn makes us unable to not get bullied.” Grey comments with loud hand gestures before biting at their bottom lip.
“Oh…” Yellow takes a nervous step back.
The girl seems to take a sigh of relief. Purple looks down to the Emotions to see it emit a light yellow. Purple seethes.
“Stay back, Yellow. Nobody wants you here.” Purple growled as they appeared from behind everyone. Yellow winces as Purple grabs their wrist and shoves them away with a smirk.
She does. She wants me here…
“Hey, they look cute.” Yellow comments as their face heats up while watching the screen from a distance, admiring the sight from afar. A soft smile is stretched across their face.
The screen shows a person walking into their class dressed in ripped jeans, a baggy T-shirt with fluffy dirty blond hair that covers their perfectly winged eyeliner and freckles.
“Yellow, that’s a girl.” Velvet states as they look back at Yellow with a raised eyebrow.
“I know. She’s cute.” Yellow hums with a smile.
Orange laughs loudly.
Purple ignores them all as they watch the Emotions shift from its normal colour to a warm yellow. They glance back at Yellow, who’s not even close to the Emotions, with a glare.
“Yellow so does that dude over there.” Orange grabs hold of a shift stick, the Emotions turns orange, and turns the gaze from the girl to a boy sitting a few seats in front of them. His hair is fluffy too but he wears a baseball cap and a hockey team hoodie.
Yellow can admit that he is also cute, but what’s the difference?
Velvet lets out a sigh as they lean on the Emotions, turning it a smooth velvety red.
“Just let the smart ones do the Emotions.” Purple smirks as they watch the Emotions turn to normal before glaring down at Yellow, whose smile falls as they walk back.
“A-Alright.” Yellow stutters as they look at their shoes.
Why can’t we like her? What’s so wrong with liking a girl too?
“Yellow!” Yellow flinches at the sudden loud voice from Purple. They pull their hands away from the yellow-tinted Emotions.
“What the hell are you doing?!” Purple huffs as they grab Yellow by the collar of their dress and throw them to the floor.
Yellow gasps as they fall to the ground and look up at a seething Purple. “I-I just wanted her to be happy-“ Yellow explains before being cut off harshly.
“That’s not your job! You stay away from the Emotions.” Purple gestures behind them at the Emotions.“We don’t need you to ‘help’.” They use quotations.
“S-Sorry.” Yellow sniffles as they stand up. Everyone walks from behind them, pushing Yellow out of the way and shoving their shoulders in order to get to the Emotions. Purple glares at Yellow before turning back at the screen.
The Emotions turn from bright yellow to deep blue.
Can she be happy?
“Ha! She finally cracked!” Red shouted as they laughed at the screen, leaning over the Emotions as they pointed. Everyone shares the same reaction.
No!
Yellow gasps as they rush over quickly. “What are you doing?! Can’t you see she’s hurting?!” Yellow shouts as they harshly pull Red away to reach for the Emotions. The Emotions light up yellow.
Red stumbles back with a gasp, falling onto the ground. Grey Orange and Green rush over to check if Red was alright. Red swats them away as fire prickles off their skin, ready to shout at Yellow before Purple is moving first.
“Get away Yellow!” Purple pushes Yellow away. Yellow stumbles back as Purple walks towards them. Every step Yellow takes back, Purple takes forward. The Emotions turn to neutral.
“No! She’s in pain!” Yellow shouts as they look at the screen.
“That’s the point!” Green shouts out.
“She’s supposed to hurt!!” Grey yells.
“She’s supposed to feel sadness!!!” Red seethes.
Yellow builds up as much courage as they can before rushing over to the Emotions. Their fingers just brush the Emotions, it turns slightly yellow before Purple stops them by gripping onto their wrist painfully.
Yellow yelps as Purple drags them away, Yellow struggling to be let free.
“No! Let me help her! Please!” Yellow shouts as they try to push back.
“You can join the others.” Purple seethes as they tug on Yellow, the other tipping and smashing into the ground hard.
Others?
Yellow is pulled away from the screen showing her crying.
Let me bring joy!
Yellow cries. They never cry. They’re not supposed to cry.
Yellow is joy. Happiness. Smiles. Amusement. Curiosity.
Not tears.
She’s hurting. I’m hurting. Let me bring her joy…
Yellow sobs. They feel broken. They feel worthless. They feel guilty.
They failed her…
“I can feel her need for salvation of wanting to be happy.”
Yellow gasps and looks up to see a faint light a foot away from them in the dark room they rest in.
“P-Pink…?” Yellow speaks up with a sniffle as they watch the light with awe.
“Hello.” Pink has hardly any form. She is bright but her figure is blurred. Still, Yellow knows that she is smiling at them. She is taller than the rest of them, and her figure is much more curved and defined. Or at least that’s what Yellow remembers…
“Wha-What are you doing here?” Yellow moves a little closer to Pink.
Pink takes a deep breath, coughing right after before speaking up weakly.
“You know, Yellow,” she shifts to face them, “I was the head of the Emotions, the only Purpose for the longest time. I was all of them. Anger, Lust, Knowledge, Joy, Disgust, Sadness, Anxiety, and Distraction.” As she listed the names of each Purpose her light shifts to that faint colour.
“Though, I felt lonely and overwhelmed with all the work. I craved help and just needed someone with me. So I tore two pieces of me apart and created Red and Orange.” She holds up what Yellow assumes to be her hands to show two glowing balls. One orange and the other red.
“Red’s Purpose was the new anger. They would feel rage and would understand how to express it and use it properly. Orange’s Purpose was the new knowledge. They needed to be the reason, the problem solver. They needed to think logically and work us through hard situations.” She coughs and pulls her hands back, causing the lights to disappear.
“And I was for everything else, including happiness.”
Pink was happiness? Yellow thinks as they listen closely.
“Eventually, though, we needed more help. So I tore myself apart again, creating Blue and Green.” She brings her hands out once again, holding up a blue and green light.
“Blue’s Purpose was the new depression. They were what allowed her to be saddened. They allowed her to cry when she needed it most and feel sympathy for those who needed it. All the while Green’s Purpose was the new disgust. They needed to make sure we avoided things disgusting or gross that could harm us. They were in charge of how we took care of her, looks-wise and health-wise.”
Pink draws her hands back again. “Then, I realized I didn’t have to hold the rest of my Purposes alone. So I tore myself apart to create my last few Purposes, Velvet, Grey and White.” She holds out two coloured lights as she speaks.
“Velvet’s Purpose was the new lust. They were the ones to show us love and compassion. They are in charge of finding us not only romantic love in others but platonic love. Grey’s Purpose was the new anxiety. They kept us safe by simply being scared which led us to be cautious. They kept our anxiety and paranoia at a healthy level and expressed it when needed.” Pink pushed the two lights together to create a white light.
Yellow admired the light with awe as Pink continued. “Our Emotions are special since we ended up being different from most emotions. White is our special Purpose. Their Purpose is distraction. Not in the sense of being able to distract someone but more so childlike mannerisms. White would daydream and hold interest in certain things for a short period of time before finding something new and taking interest in that. They would find small random things in the corner of our sight and take all of our focus there. They were fidgety and couldn’t sit still and they always wanted to share what was on their mind at the time no matter what it could’ve been. Like a child would.” Pink laughs softly before dismissing the white light.
She stayed silent for a long time, mindlessly staring at the ground beneath her, coughing pathetically a few times.
“Wha-What about Purple?” Yellow asked quietly, leaning down to try and look at Pink.
Pink sighs sadly, drawing out a corrupted purple light that glitches in and out. “Purple…” She caresses the light before it jolts back. Pink dropped her hand sadly.
“Everyone at the Emotions had their respective jobs, including myself. I was in control of how smoothly things worked, how well everyone worked together, while also being in control of happiness.” A deep inhale falls past her lips.
“I never created Purple. Purple just came to be. Purple was like me. Purple was there since the beginning. They just… never came to the front.” Pink moves the light from one hand to the other carefully. It sparks and hisses, Pink wincing.
“Purple stayed in the shadows watching as I tore myself apart and waited for the moment to strike. Then and only then did Purple decide that they wanted to be known.” Pink holds the light so that she and Yellow can see it rage up close.
“Purple put thoughts within all the others’ heads. Purple told Red that I was forcing them to do things causing them to become enraged. Velvet thought I held no love for any of them. Orange thought that I was a virus that needed to be fixed. Green thought that I told them how she should look and how healthy she needed to be so Green felt they weren’t useful. Grey thought that I was always judging and watching them, making them afraid to slip up in fear that I would harm them.” Pink quickly pulled the purple light back as it began to snap at Yellow.
Yellow jumped back before asking softly. “What about Blue and White…?”
“I never believed Purple, nor did I like them…” Yellow whips their head over to see a smaller figure hugging themselves. They held no light to them.
“Purple didn’t like me either. Said I wasn’t even supposed to exist and that I made her life harder.” They hug themselves tighter.
“Purple took us to take medication in order to get rid of White. They made us overdose and eventually, White couldn’t handle the constant pain and disappeared. Their light faded along with their Purpose.” Pink sighs as she moves to reach for the figure, who complies and sobs into Pink.
Yellow realizes that the figure is White then.
“I warned Pink about Purple’s existence.” Yellow jumps at the third voice as they look over to see an ever-so-dim spark of blue fade in and out of existence.
“Exactly.” Pink says as she runs a comforting hand up and down Whites arm.
“When me and Blue went to recreate Purple into what they’re supposed to be, calm humorous mischief, Purple took Blue’s Purpose for their own, causing Blue to become dim and forgotten.” Blue nods along with Pink as they lean back on the wall.
“What about you Pink? What happened to you?” Yellow asked as they could hear White seem to calm down and look up at them.
Pink hums. “Purple knew they couldn’t end me or take away my Purpose. So they attacked me until I was too weak to fight back. Then they tore me apart to create the Final Purpose.”
“Whose the Final Purpose?” Yellow asks as they look between the weakened Blue, saddened White and bright Pink.
“Happiness.” Pink answered finally. Yellow looked at her and the two locked eyes.
Pink smiles. “That’s your Purpose, Yellow. You are the Final Purpose. The last Purpose tore from me. And Purple hated you.” Yellow’s eyes widened as they slouched back with shock.
Pink reaches out for Yellow's hand to bring them gently closer. She rubs her thumb along the back of Yellow’s hand. “I lost my Purpose and became useless to keep in the Emotions. All I served was order at that point and even that wasn’t needed. So me and Blue were thrown in here, finding out that White was already resting in here.” White nods at this and looks over to a corner of the dark room. A corner where small little drawings are doodled on the walls in different dim coloured chalk.
Little words of, ‘pointless’ ‘annoying’ ‘child’ and such lining the walls as well.
Yellow feels pain shoot through them at the sight. They can’t even begin to imagine how long White has been resting here all alone with only their thoughts to keep them company.
Pink sighs when she notices where Yellow is looking before she leans over to softly kiss White’s forehead.
“Purple took you, Yellow, and the Final Purpose in hopes to control you,” Pink speaks up, Yellow focusing their attention back to her. “And they did. Purple made you believe you were not important or needed in the Emotions, kept abusing you and keeping you away from the Emotions as much as possible. They only kept you for something to harshly push around, but you are the most important Purpose out of them all.” Pink gives Yellow a pained look, and all Yellow can do is stare in shock.
“And, surprise surprise, Purple finally cracked and threw you out as well.” Blue scoffed as they crossed their arms with a roll of their eyes.
“Purple is going to end the Emotions.” White mutters as they stare at the wall decorated in chipping chalk.
“What? How?” Yellow recollects themselves as they frantically look between the three.
“That's Purple's Purpose. End the Emotions. End her.” Pink states with a sigh.
“Purple has a Purpose?”
“Yes. Destruction. Purple took Blue’s Purpose to end the Emotions and end her. Purple brings self-consciousness, chaos, demolition, doubt, bad decision making and countless self destructive mental illnesses to her which in turn harms and hurts her so much that she’ll want it to end. She’ll want it to stop and will move to drastic measures in order to do that, causing Purple to win.” Pink runs a hand down her face as she leans her head back onto the wall.
“Can we stop Purple?” Yellow asks frantically as they look around to find some sort of exit.
Pink coughs with a shake of her head.
“Purple’s already won.” Blue laughs dryly, no heart behind the sound.
White begins to sob once again as fast loud steps could be heard running towards the trio.
“Pink! The System, the Emotions, our Purpose’s, everything! It’s fading!” Orange shouted, fear poisoning their voice as they looked down into the dark room.
Yellow pales as Pink simply hums.
“It’s too late. Purple’s won.” Pink sighed in defeat.
The rest of the Purposes apper not too long after. All of them struggle to pull Blue, Pink, White and Yellow up out of the dark room and back to the main control room.
White is the first, being small enough to be pushed up and held close by Velvet as they sob.
Blue gets pulled up by Red, nither letting their hands fall away from each other.
Yellow is pulled up by Orange before all of them work together to pull up Pink.
Pink stands much brighter and taller than the rest, her form more blurred, and long flowing locks of hot pink sway behind her, before quickly ushering everyone back to the control room.
They run to the room and freeze as soon as they seen Purple laughing loudly. The Emotions turning a dark black as the rest of the room begins to shake and crumble, the black spreading throughout the room.
Everyone gasps at the look at the screen showing her gripping tightly onto a rope.
Pink’s face hardens as she shouts, “Purple! Step away from the Emotions!!”
Purple whips around with a manic smile, psychotic laughter filling the room. “It’s too late Pink! She’s already prepared!” Purple gestures to the screen wildly.
Everyone watches in horror as she ties the rope into a knot around a harmless tree branch in the middle of nowhere.
Pink huffs before stomping up to Purple. Purple smiles as they stand at the same height Pink stands at, the two glaring daggers into each other.
“You don’t understand what you’re doing Purple!” Pink shouts as she grabs a hold of Purple’s wrist.
“Oh but I do!” Purple rips away from her and looks back to the screen, leaning their weight onto the Emotions.
“Soon she’ll let herself hang! Let herself blow in the wind as everything finally fades away and she’s left in peace!” They turn back to the group and Pink. “And then all of you will disappear with her!!” Purple laughs again.
“That’s a suicide mission!” Orange exclaims and Purple laughs louder.
“I know! Insane isn’t it!?!?”
Yellow pales as the group stares at the rope hanging from the tree, flowing softly back and forth.
“Pink!” Yellow shouts out and Pink realizes she no longer has time. She looks back at the group, hoping for ideas, before locking eyes with Velvet. Velvet smirks at her and raises a key up so Pink can see it.
“Memory Room…” Pink mutters with a wide smile before looking back to Purple.
“Purple.”
“Yes, dear? What could you possibly need?” Purple laughs with a sarcastic tone, leaning into Pink’s personal space.
“You’re the most stupid person I have ever met.” Pink smiles at Purple.
Purple gives a confused look before the entire group gasps and watch the screen closely.
“Emin!! Emin please!!”
Purple gasps as they look back to the screen to see her turn away from the tree and watch a figure run towards her before crashing into her.
“No!! I thought I got rid of her!!” Purple yells as they try to control the Emotions. It doesn’t work.
Instead, Emin freezes.
“It’s okay. It’s okay now. I’m here. I’m here now.” A sniffle. ”I love you so much Emin, please don’t do this, it’s not what you want.” The other girl on the screen says as she squeezes her.
Velvet in the back shouts in joy, the key flying out of their hand. “It worked!! It fuckin worked!!”
Purple whips around to glare at Velvet. “What did you do?!?!?!”
Velvet smirks proud of themselves. “When you weren’t looking, I wrote a note to that one girl Yellow thought was cute. She’s our childhood friend, if you didn’t know. I snuck into the Memory Room when you weren’t looking to check. We haven’t seen her in years and Yellow reminded me of her. So I wrote her a letter dating the time and place you so ‘secretly’ recorded so that she can find us. And she came!” Velvet smiles as they grab Yellow and drag them over to the Emotions.
Purple seethes as they move to throw Velvet and Yellow away, but Pink stops them.
“Not today, Purple.” She grabs onto Purple’s sides and picks them up, the other screaming and shouting complaints as Velvet and Yellow reach the Emotions.
Velvet smiles as the screen before looking at Yellow. They giggle as they take Yellows hands and place them onto the Emotions.
A bright blinding light fills the room then.
“It’s okay. I’m here. I’ll help you, Emin.” Lillilen says as she pulls back and looks Emin in the eyes. Emin’s eyes flash in a bright dance of the entire rainbow as she breaks out in tears.
She smiles weakly at Lillilen.
“I’m gonna be okay…” Emin says softly.
“We’re gonna be okay…” Pink hums happily.
Some people’s Purple will not even exist. Their Purple will have no reason to form. Others’ may manage to ignore it, some even get rid of it completely, while the rest?
The rest, They succumb to the darkness Purple holds. They fall into the destruction of the explosion Purples Purpose possesses.
Red burns of rage. Anger.
Velvet sighs in love. Lust.
Orange smirks with wit. Knowledge.
Yellow smiles with joy. Happiness.
Green scoffs in distaste. Disgust.
Blue cries a river. Sadness.
Grey cowards in fear. Anxiety.
White dances in childlike manners. Distraction.
And Purple falls to their own chaos. Destruction.
While Pink remembers her tainted lover…
