Railing

It’s quiet. That’s unsettling. 

Maybe she’s just sleeping. I shrug as I fumble with my keys. Eventually, I get the right one and place it into the slot to unlock the door. I slowly creek the door open, just in case she is asleep. 

Maybe I shouldn’t…

Once fully open, I pretty much have confirmed she’s most likely sleeping, due to the darkness and no lights off. I look down at my watch as I close the door softly and click the light on. Huh, only 9 o’clock. That’s early to go to sleep. Maybe she had a rough day.

It’s beautiful here… I don’t deserve it.

I placed my keys into the bowl beside the door and walked over to check the living room couch. Maybe she passed out there while watching TV. I chuckled at the thought. She’d do something like that. Once I entered the room she wasn’t there though. Must’ve actually passed out in bed for once.

The wind feels nice through my hair…

I scan the room once over just in case she’s got some prank in store. Seems like she doe- 

The patio door… is it open? It’s just across the living room, a fair distance away, but the curtains are flowing so gracefully that the patio doors do seem to be open. Weird. I try to see around the curtain, in suspicion just in case somethings up,  and-

As I look around the curtain there in the dim of the night, with the bright city lights shining vibrantly, is Scarlett. Her ever so long hair flowing naturally in the soft breeze as her loose summer dress did the same. This scene would’ve been beautiful, except...

Can’t live any longer...

She’s standing on top of the protective railing of the patio. If she slips she’s… NO!

I’m sorry, but we have to say goodbye now.

”Scarlett!!” I scream as loud as my lungs will allow as I rush over ignoring anything else. At the sound of her name she turned to face me. Her cheeks were stained with tears and she looked absolutely terrified. I need to get to her. I need to-

She took a deep breath and stepped off.
