Dear random big movie company,
The other day, I sat in a theatre, watching flashing lights on a screen
With mind-numbing sound
And I thought
When did creativity die?
I can’t pinpoint it
Find exactly when creativity started being optional when creating art
And I hate it
Because these flashing lights, these thousands of frames
Painful dialogue that I can predict
Music that doesn’t even flow properly
They’re dry, meaningless,
soulless
Remake after remake, uninspiring
The same thing over and over
Rinse and goddamn repeat
Cartoon now live action
Movies not needing a second, third, or fourth add-on
Yet getting one anyway
Any time I sit in a movie theatre
Popcorn in hand, perfectly buttered
The theatre seat kind of uncomfortable, but just right
Tickets far too overpriced
I hate it
Instead of high emotion and sitting on the edge of my seat
Dying to know what happens next
Blown away by unimaginable visuals and blessed by songs meant for the heavens
I’m hit with ruined characters and a predictable risk-less plot
I’m hit with creatives being denied what they originally intended
I’m hit with you big money assholes flaunting the amount of money you’re going to make
And I hate it
Gods, I hate it so much
You cooperation's milk nostalgia factor and reuse old material
Hitting us with so-called,
REVOLUTIONARY NEVER SEEN OR DONE BEFORE IN 789K RESOLUTION WITH 65000 SOUND QUALITY COSTING 50 BILLION DOLLARS
And it’s just Toy Story 15 or Frozen 2 live-action remake
With the whole cast being actors and actresses who are household names
Who have no acting skills but they’re pretty
With a basic story that completely ruins the characters' whole character arc
And no ounce of human creativity and expression inside
Just pictures on a really big screen
Costing me 100 bucks
And everyone will clap at the end
I hate it
Why?
Why does this happen?
How do you keep getting away with this?
Because it’s so easy
It’s something you know the audience will buy
You’ve seen the numbers the first time it happened
The way the watchers loved it the first time
So obviously, if you reuse old material, especially if it’s significantly older
Then people will buy
The money will flow in
Because the people won’t care what they’re watching
If there's that character they love
a couple of action scenes
a really hot actor
And some overdone CGI
Then the audience will blindly enjoy
Creatives aren’t allowed to take risks
Because that risks money
And audiences aren’t allowed to experience something new
Because they’re scared
I hate it
I hate it so much because eventually all we’ll be watching is AI slop that one random money-hungry white guy generated with a single sentence
And no one will want to create anymore
No one will create anymore
I used to hate the Snow White cartoon
Now I wish you would take risks like that again
Sincerely,
A very angry and creative future director
