1. Game Creation
Quiz Design: Users (teachers, students, or anyone) create quizzes using the Kahoot platform. Each quiz, called a Kahoot, consists of questions with multiple-choice answers, true/false options, puzzles, or other interactive formats.
Customization: Questions can include text, images, or videos. Time limits and point values for each question can be adjusted.
2. Game Setup
Host Selection: A user (the host) starts the game. It can be played live (in a classroom or virtual session) or assigned as a self-paced challenge.
Game PIN: Once the Kahoot is started, a unique Game PIN is generated and displayed on the host’s screen. Participants use this PIN to join.
3. Player Participation
Joining: Players go to kahoot.it or open the Kahoot app, enter the Game PIN, and choose a nickname. Their names appear on the host's screen.
Device Usage: Players use their own devices (phones, tablets, or computers) to interact with the game.
4. Gameplay
Questions Displayed: The host screen shows the questions, answer options, and countdown timer.
Answering: Players select their answers on their devices. The options are displayed as colored shapes, not text (to keep focus on the host screen).
Scoring: Points are awarded based on:
Correct answers.
Speed of response (faster responses earn more points).
Consistency (answering consecutive questions correctly boosts the score).
5. Leaderboard
After each question, a leaderboard is displayed, showing the top-scoring players. This fosters competition and motivates participants.
6. End of Game
Winner Announcement: At the end of the quiz, the top three players are displayed in a podium format.
Feedback: Participants can rate the game and give feedback.
Review: The host can review the game results, including player performance on each question.
7. Game Modes
Live Kahoot: Played in real-time with a group.
Challenge Mode: Players complete the quiz asynchronously at their own pace.
Team Mode: Groups of players collaborate and compete as teams.
8. Gamification Elements
Streaks: Players are rewarded for consecutive correct answers.
Customization: Hosts can add music, themes, or animations to enhance engagement.
Power-Ups (Beta Features): Some quizzes may include additional interactive features like bonuses or hints.
9. Accessibility
Kahoot is designed to be accessible across various devices and platforms, making it versatile for diverse learning environments.
