Background:
Hello! My name is Rachel Chubb and I'm a high school senior from New Hampshire. I've been a Girl Scout since kindergarten, and I'm now an Ambassador working on my Gold Award project. In ninth grade, I took my first chemistry class, and I haven't stopped learning about chemistry ever since. Last year, I had the amazing opportunity to take an organic chemistry class, and I absolutely fell in love. I decided it would be a perfect topic for my Gold Award.
Besides chemistry, I'm also passionate about feminism, reading, writing, dance, music, and purple. My role models include RBG, Kamala Harris, Michelle Obama, and my chemistry teacher, Dr. MacDonald. My favorite books are anything by Cassandra Clare. I'm obsessed with Taylor Swift, Olivia Rodrigo, and a folk singer called Sierra Ferrell.
This year, I'm applying exclusively to historically women's colleges. I'm excited to go off and study chemistry, eventually get my PhD, and use my scientific knowledge to help women around the world. Eventually, I want to open an all-female lab.
Other projects:
Women in the Workplace
This was my project for the Girl Scout Girls Rock the Capitol internship. I created a website to teach younger girls about some of the challenges of being a woman in the workforce and how to rise up. This project can be seen here.
The Pink Tax
As a part of my summer health course, I created a textbook about the pink tax. This textbook was aimed at middle school students with a desire to change the world. This project can be seen here.
Solving Sexist Language —Junior Project
For my junior project, I created a curriculum about sexism and language and how it can be corrected. The curriculum includes enrichment projects, writing prompts, correcting sexist sentence worksheets, and reading comprehension worksheets for students of all ages. This project can be found here.
Menstruation and Botany Treatments —My Favorite Class Project
For my botany class, we were allowed to choose pretty much any topic for our final project. I chose to study menstrual disorders and botanical treatments used for them around the world. This is easily one of my favorite class projects ever. This project can be found here.
