As for us, Marcel Duchamp's "Fountain" is unquestionably a work of art from the perspective of the theory that art can be a form of provocation or challenge to established norms. This artwork by Duchamp is widely recognized as a provocative and groundbreaking piece of art that challenges traditional notions of art and the role of the artist. Additionally, Marcel Duchamp’s “Fountain” provoked strong reactions and discussions about what constitutes art and who has the authority to define it. Hence, it can be considered art in the sense that it provokes thought, discussion, and reflection on the nature of art itself.
"Fountain" won't ever be regarded as art, as the majority of people would say, because it doesn't understand what art actually is and lacks certain attributes, or because its creator didn't even need to employ any special skill or particular ability when creating it since it already existed and had been ready-made men's urinal basin that is a mass-produced item, making it possible for anyone without artistic talent to duplicate the piece of art. As we gave it more thought, however, we came to the conclusion that the artwork's genius rests not in its shape or object, but rather in its capacity to capture ideas and spark discussions about those concepts. "Fountain" qualifies as art due to the concept that lies behind it and the context in which it was created. Duchamp came up with the brilliant notion of turning the urinal upside down so that the emphasis would be on its intellectual interpretation that arouses feelings and emotion rather than the physical aspect. This was his way of enticing us to think critically, share our very own views, and thoroughly comprehend the piece of work and now it is one of Duchamp's most well-known pieces that is regarded as a classic example of twentieth-century art the “Fountain”.
