Different teams will naturally have different visions, energies, and coaching styles.
We think that every player should find a 'best fit' team for her/them and we hope that Orcas is a best fit for you!
If you attend Orcas tryouts and experience our vision, energy, and coaching style and it doesn't feel like the best fit for you, we encourage you to check out the Seven Hills Ultimate program.
We invite you to tryout for Orcas if you are a rising 7th through 11th grader. You must be under 17 in the 2026 calendar year to be eligible to compete in the U17 division.
Alison Byerly (Carleton College President) once said, "Learning requires an environment of trust and belonging, where everyone feels valued and can show up as their full selves."
As coaches, we hold that belief in the forefront as we form this team.
We ask players what they need in order to build this type of team culture and their perspective guides our community - players, coaches, families - in our collective commitment to meet these needs to the best of our ability.
Andrea Schnee. This will be Andrea’s first year coaching Orcas U17 Gx. She brings 9 years of experience coaching youth ultimate at Bryant Elementary and Eckstein Middle school, including multiple league championships at each level.
Kent Koth. This will be Kent's third year coaching Orcas U17 Gx; Kent also coached at Hazel Wolf and Jane Addams Middle School. Kent's teams at JAMS won DiscNW league championships in the fall and winter, as well as Spring Reign.
Jimmy Chu has been coaching elementary, middle and high school for the past 20 years. He is a 7-time national champion, having won in five different divisions - HS, college, club open, club mixed, club masters.
We plan to have teambuilding days in April and May, and practices will begin in late June. The team will practice 3 times a week.
We plan to reserve fields that are a few blocks from link light rail and we imagine practices will look something like Tuesdays/Thursdays 5pm-7pm and Sundays 10:00am-12:30pm.
The team will have a break July 4th weekend for R&R and family time.
We are working very hard to keep the cost of the summer season (including airfare) at or below $1800.
We have met every financial assistance request we have received and we will be doing team fundraising!
