Applying for time

COLLABORATION AGREEMENT

CANARY access is organised through a collaboration agreement agreed between ORP members and the CANARY team that covers all phases of the collaboration from proposal preparation through to the eventual publication policy. We strongly advise anyone considering applying for time to read these 3 pages of the Collaboration Agreement Document

Proposals will be ranked by an independent panel drawn from the ING and ORP communities. They will be advised on technical feasibility of the proposal by the CANARY team. We will endeavour to support as many proposals as we can, but effort is limited.

PrOPOSAL SUBMISSION

The information that should be included within the proposal is detailed in the collaboration agreement. Please limit proposals to a maximum of 3 pages in length and provide an indication of which observing period (Any period between 22A and 23B) you'd like to request. We note that we have no say over when observing nights may be scheduled within any observing period. ING 'A' and 'B' observing periods run February-July and August-January respectively.

Proposals should be sent to Tim Morris by the deadline indicated on the front page.

Eligibility

Proposals may be submitted by any institute/user group within the rules for Trans-National Access provision under H2020. To comply with the Grant Agreement between the ORP community and the EC at least 50% of the partners involved in a proposal must work in an institution in the EU or "H2020 associated country". As there is no alternative access programme for CANARY, instrument and installation location restrictions for applicants do not apply. If you're unsure as to your status, please contact the CANARY team.

Telescope Access

Both the WHT and INT telescopes are currently undergoing major programmes to prepare for the arrival of the WEAVE spectrograph at the WHT and HARPS3 spectrograph at the INT. This may have an impact on telescope availability:

  • WHT access for 21B is unlikely as WEAVE will be being installed.

  • WHT access for 22A is under negotiation.

  • INT access dates are TBD.

'A' periods run from February to July. 'B' periods run from August to January. More details on the ING telescopes and observatory can be found on their website.
