OPS-Haramoni and Dinabandhu Sahu Memorial Award

SECTION 1: Steps for conferring the Award

    1. A Nominee for the Award should have made a significant contribution to UG Physics Teaching/Innovation/Curricular development and should satisfy the eligibility criteria (see Section 2).

    2. The Nominee has to be nominated by a Nominator (see Section 3).

    3. The Nominee has to submit the Application form online only (see Section 4).

    4. OPS Selection Committee selects the Awardee from amongst the Nominees (see Section 5).

    5. The Award is presented to the Awardee (see Section 6).

SECTION 2: Eligibility Criteria

    1. At least 5 years of UG Physics Teaching in any Government and aided Institutions affiliated to UGC-approved Universities of Odisha**.

    2. At least 80% of Laboratory Experiments should have been conducted by the teacher. (A certificate from the head of the Institution in this regard to be uploaded along with the documents).

    3. Should be a full-time teacher according to the Government guidelines. However, the Selection Committee may consider minor deviations in cases where extraordinary teaching has been demonstrated.

    4. Should not be more than 45 years of age as of 31 Jan of the year of the award.

SECTION 3: Nomination

    1. The Nominator should be an OPS Member or a Member of Physics Faculty or Head of the current Institution.

    2. A Nominator can nominate only one Nominee per year.

    3. In the opinion of the Nominator, the Nominee has made a significant contribution to UG Physics Teaching.

    4. The Nominator is requested to submit the Nomination form online here no later than 31 Mar of the year of the award.

SECTION 4: Application

    1. The application form should be submitted online here by the nominee no later than 31 Mar of the year of the award.

    2. The nominee will receive an e-mail/message with the submitted form in pdf format.

    3. Shortlisted candidates will be required to send soft copies of supporting documents when requested.

SECTION 5: Selection Process

    1. The Nominations and Applications will be reviewed by a Selection Committee appointed by OPS for this purpose.

    2. The Screening Committee will make a shortlist of nominees (finalists).

    3. The finalists will be required to make a video recording of a presentation (20-30 minutes) on their contribution to UG Physics Teaching. Only one video containing 5 min about himself, 10 min classroom session (with or without students), 5 min about his work, 5 min about his achievements is required. The camera should be focused on the teacher for at least 50% of the duration. Dramatized recordings and unnecessary video editing should be avoided as far as possible. The video should be recorded and uploaded to YouTube and the youtube link must be sent to hdsmaward.ops21@gmail.com.

    4. The video recording should be uploaded to “YouTube” and made public.

    5. The finalists will be informed by 30 Apr of the year of the award to upload/share their supporting documents in a folder named <YourName-HDSMA-20xx> with hdsmaward.ops21@gmail.com.

    6. Selection Committee Members may have further telephonic discussions with the finalists, Nominators, and Referees.

    7. One amongst the finalists, based on his/her significant contribution to UG Physics Teaching, will be chosen by the Selection Committee for the Award.

SECTION 6: Award Presentation and Lecture

    1. The Awardee will be announced, the citation will be read out, and the cash prize handed over during the Annual OPS Convention.

    2. After receiving the award, the Awardee will be expected to give an Acceptance Lecture (~15 minutes) to the audience highlighting his/her contribution to Physics Teaching. A written version of the Lecture will be required for publication in the Souvenir of the host Institution.

    3. The Awardee will be reimbursed TA as per OPS norms.

SECTION 7: Terms and Conditions

The following terms and conditions shall apply to the OPS-Haramoni and Dinabandhu Sahu Memorial Award (“Award”).

    1. A recipient of the Award cannot be considered for the 'Award' again in the future.

    2. A nominee can re-apply for the Award in future years if the eligibility criteria are met subject to Section 2 above.

    3. Only one Physics Teacher from the same institution can be considered in a year.

    4. Any false information submitted in the Application form will lead to immediate & permanent disqualification of the nominee for the Award.

    5. OPS reserves the right to consider or reject any submitted nomination without informing the nominee/associated institution.

    6. The last date for nomination/application for the Award can be curtailed or extended at the discretion of OPS, as deemed necessary.

    7. Once submitted, OPS has the right to use the information submitted through email or hard copy, as it deems fit, including but not limited to: websites, internet, television programming, radio programming, newspapers, magazines, press, presentations, brochures, Public Relations and any other means of communication.

    8. The Nominee’s personal details will be treated with respect. OPS will never sell or rent them to anyone.

    9. By agreeing with these terms and conditions, the nominee also automatically agrees to all terms and conditions stated by the various platforms used for the Award, including but not limited to: websites, digital platforms, Facebook, LinkedIn, and YouTube.

    10. The decision of OPS in choosing the Awardee is final and cannot be challenged.
