Geremia is the lead bison biologist for Yellowstone National Park. I first met him on an Ecology Project International expedition. He came and spoke to our group about, yes, bison. Along with my science teacher, Shelby Jones, I was able to stay in contact with Geremia after the expedition. During my sophomore year I had the opportunity to be part of a panel with Geremia that spoke about living with bison at the Bianniel Yellowstone Scientific Conference. It was a really interesting experience that was a great precursor to my project. He has been very valuable to my research and I plan to continue to work with Geremia on various studies in the coming years.
Currently, Geremia is focusing on the quarantine process for bison. He explained to me that Yellowstone is basically creating the procedure for quarantining animals that may have Brucellosis. In addition, much of the research by the Yellowstone bison team monitors vegetation and the health of the ecosystem to help inform wildlife managers.
