As indicated on the application form, you will be presenting either a speech or a debate. Each presentation should last 2-3 minutes.
Those trying out for speech will write about anything they want. Preferably something they feel drawn towards. It can be creative. It can be informative. It can be dramatic. It can be whatever you want as long as it is appropriate.
Those trying out for debate will argue either for or against one of the three following topics
1. TBD
2. TBD
3. TBD
This is technically just a pro-con speech. Remember you are only choosing one side to argue. The goal is to persuade us to believe your stance. The trick is having structure to your argument. Try to incorporate research if you can.
Do NOT expect yourself to be a master at these tryouts. We will help you reach that point if you are accepted to the team. All we look for is potential.
The tryouts will be located at the OPHS Library. (It will be in one of the first rooms when you enter the library). Please show up at your designated tryout time and wait outside until we call you in.
During this 10-minute tryout, we will go over some general team information, introduce ourselves, and have you present your prepared speech or debate (if you are trying out for both speech and debate please present the one you prefer).
Keep in mind that everyone trying out will most likely have the same level of experience as you, so please do not stress too much!
