The Oak Park Fire Safe Council (OPFSC) was founded in 2021 and operates as a non-profit organization whose main purpose is to assist with the protection of property and life from wildfire in Oak Park through coordination with federal, state and local agencies and delivering projects primarily associated with educating homeowners on how to protect their home and performing various fuel modification projects that reduce the impact of wildfire events. We fund these efforts with various grants available to our community. To this date the OPFSC has received over $18,000 in funds to achieve our goals. OPFSC operates as an activity committee under the Oak Park Community Foundation.

CURRENT GOALS
Raise wildland fire awareness and familiarize the residents of Oak Park with the concepts of "Home Hardening" in the "Home Ignition Zone " (HIZ). There are currently two groups that provide assessments for the residents of Oak Park. At this point there are a limited number of evaluations from each group that have been funded to be performed at no cost to the residents. Both groups have received grants to provide services to the residents of Oak Park. Links for information and signing up for the two programs are listed below. We are encouraging all residents to take advantage of this opportunity to receive an assessment of their property in order to better prepare for this fire season.

This document will identify history of wildfires in our area, pinpoint specific wildfire risks, spot fuel pockets and potential mitigation, and pin down evacuation routes for the community.

Once the WRA is in place, the council will follow state guidelines to develop a CWPP for the community of Oak Park. The CWPP identifies the specific projects required to reduce wildfire risk in Oak park.
FUTURE GOALS AND PROJECTS
Develop a HIZ Home Hardening Zone Program specific to our community.
Work with the community (residents & HOA's) and agencies (Ventura County Fire Department & Rancho Simi Community Park District) to maintain defensible space in Oak Park to assure preservation of our community in the event of a wildfire.
