The Mission is the name given by Marshall Redgrave to his therapeutic wellness and self-actualization retreat in Sonoma, California. It is a secluded place, hard to find without a map or specific directions, and occupies about 100 acres of land, most of which Marshall has allowed to grow wild. He acquired the property at an estate sale auction in 1971, with financial backing from SANDMAN.
The Mission has something of a campus quality. It consists of three primary buildings and a number of smaller purpose-built "outliers," mostly for use by staff (e.g. storage sheds, garages, staff apartments). The largest building is a 25,000 square foot Spanish Colonial Revival mansion built at the turn of the century by a San Francisco shipping magnate. Most of the Mission's guests stay in that building, which contains the "greeting center," dining facilities, and bedrooms of various styles and sizes. The second building is a converted guest house, built in the early 1940s. This is where Marshall lives, and is the location of the CCRME. The third and final building is a former combination barn-stable that has been extensively remodeled to provide artist studios ("creative endeavor spaces") and group therapy rooms. The grounds around these buildings are well manicured, with numerous semi-secluded groves, plazas, footpaths, and promontories.
