Annie French is a soprano in her senior year at George Mason University, pursuing a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance at the Dewberry School of Music. Before George Mason, she studied briefly at the Bard College Conservatory of Music before transfering in the spring of 2023. Studying under Patricia Miller, Annie is currently studying to perform her senior recital in Spring 2027. Annie speaks German and has a soft spot for German lieder, while also enjoying French art song and focusing her efforts on operatic singing.
Annie has enjoyed many performance opportunities while at George Mason, including opera performances, competitions, concerts, and much more. She has performed scenes as Marcelline in Fidelio, Countess in Le Nozze di Figaro, Hanna in Die Lustige Witwe, and Fiordiligi in Cosi fan tutte. She also performed in her first full role as Gertrude Stein in Ricky Ian Gordon's 27 after working privately with composer himself during his residency at the School of Music. She recently performed as Lucy in Gian Carlo Menotti's The Telephone. Annie has competed in the National Association of Teachers in Singing (NATS) Vocal Competition three times at George Mason, placing 1st in her category at the state level multiple times, before moving on to the regional and semifinal levels. In Spring 2025, she was the only singer of five winners of the George Mason University Concerto Competition. She traveled to Carnegie Hall in Spring 2026 to perform Durufle's Requiem with George Mason Choirs in collaboration with The Choral Arts Society of Washington.
Along with her passion for music, Annie is a well-travelled military child, and spent two years living abroad in Bayern, Germany from 2012 to 2014. She enjoys reading, listening to music, knitting, and watching movies. Living with her mom and three younger siblings, she loves spending time with her family and Bun-bun, the family bunny.
