Summary: Openstax Guide is an offline educational study application. Your notes, progress, and imported files remain on your device. We do not require an account, do not sell personal data, and do not use third-party advertising or analytics trackers.
1. Introduction
This Privacy Policy ("Policy") describes how Openstax Guide ("the App," "we," "us," or "our") handles information when you download, install, or use our offline educational study application.
We are committed to protecting your privacy. The App is designed so that learning can take place without creating an online account, without cloud synchronization of your study data, and without transmitting your personal study information to our servers.
Please read this Policy carefully. By using the App, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Policy.
2. Scope of This Policy
This Policy applies to the Openstax Guide mobile application and its locally stored features, including reading, note-taking, flashcards, quizzes, progress tracking, study planning, and backup tools.
This Policy does not apply to third-party websites or services that you may access through external links opened from your device browser. Those services are governed by their own privacy policies.
3. Information We Collect
Local study data: notes, flashcards, quiz results, bookmarks, reading progress, planner tasks, settings, and other content you create within the App.
Imported content: PDF textbooks, documents, or other files that you choose to import. Such files are stored locally on your device and are not uploaded to us.
Optional profile information: a display name you may enter in Settings. This value is stored locally on your device only and is not transmitted to us.
Device permissions: the App may request storage access to import or export files, and notification permission if you enable study reminders. Permissions are used solely for the features you activate.
We do not collect names, email addresses, telephone numbers, government identifiers, payment information, or precise location data through the App, because registration, online accounts, and in-app purchases are not required.
4. Information We Do Not Collect
We do not operate user accounts or authentication systems within the App.
We do not use third-party analytics SDKs, advertising SDKs, crash-reporting services that identify users, or social login providers.
We do not sell, rent, or trade personal information.
We do not build advertising profiles or conduct cross-app behavioral tracking.
5. How We Use Information
All information processed by the App is used solely to provide App functionality, including displaying study content, saving your notes, tracking progress, generating local quizzes, and sending optional on-device reminders.
Offline summaries and quiz generation, where available, run on your device using your notes and study content. They are not sent to external artificial intelligence services operated by us.
We do not use your information for marketing, profiling, or automated decision-making that produces legal or similarly significant effects.
6. Legal Basis for Processing (Where Applicable)
Because the App processes data locally on your device to deliver requested features, the primary basis for processing is your use of the App and your consent provided at first launch.
You may withdraw consent at any time by uninstalling the App and deleting exported backup files.
7. Data Storage, Retention, and Security
Your data remains on your device unless you explicitly export a backup file.
We retain no copies of your study data on our servers because the App does not sync data to our infrastructure.
You may review, export, or delete your data at any time through Settings → Backup & Restore, through your device application settings, or by uninstalling the App.
We recommend enabling device lock-screen protection and storing exported backup files in a secure location.
While we design the App to keep data local, no method of electronic storage is completely secure. You are responsible for safeguarding your device and backup files.
8. Sharing and Disclosure
We do not share your personal study data with third parties for their own purposes.
We may disclose information only if required by applicable law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request, and only to the extent necessary.
If you choose to share an exported backup file with another person or service, that sharing is under your control and is not governed by this Policy once the file leaves your device.
9. Children's Privacy
The App may be used by students of various ages under appropriate supervision.
We do not knowingly collect personal information from children through online registration or account creation because the App does not offer those features.

10. International Users
The App is designed to function offline on your device. Because we do not collect or store your study data on our servers, cross-border data transfers by us generally do not occur.
If you export a backup file, you are responsible for storing and transferring that file in accordance with applicable laws.
11. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or restrict processing of personal information.
Because your data is stored locally, you can exercise these rights directly by reviewing, editing, exporting, or deleting App data on your device.
You may withdraw consent by uninstalling the App and deleting exported backup files.

12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Policy from time to time to reflect product changes, legal requirements, or regulatory guidance. Material changes will be reflected within the App.
