Welcome to OpenPrep. We are committed to protecting the privacy and personal information of all our users, especially students and young learners across India.

This Privacy Policy explains how OpenPrep ("we", "our", or "us") collects, uses, stores, shares, and protects your personal information when you use our mobile application available on Google Play Store (the "App").

By downloading, installing, or using OpenPrep, you agree to the terms described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree with this policy, please do not use our App.

OpenPrep is designed for users aged 13 years and above. Users under the age of 18 should review this policy with their parent or guardian.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

• Full name (provided during account setup)

• Email address (for account creation and login)

• Education level, grade, and stream (Class 6-12, College, University)

• Target exam selection (JEE, NEET, UPSC, Board, etc.)

• Preferred language (English, Hindi, Hinglish)

• Profile photo (optional)

• Referral code (if using referral system)

2.2 Information Collected Automatically

• Device information (device model, operating system version)

• App usage data (features used, time spent, screens visited)

• Generated content metadata (topics searched, notes created, quizzes taken)

• Coin transaction history (coins earned and spent within the app)

• Login timestamps and daily login streak data

• Crash reports and error logs (via Firebase Crashlytics)

• App performance data (via Firebase Analytics)

2.3 Information from Third-Party Services

• Google Sign-In: If you choose to sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.

• Google AdMob: Our advertising partner may collect device identifiers and usage data to serve relevant advertisements to free users.

• Firebase Services: We use Firebase by Google for authentication, database storage, analytics, and crash reporting.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect for the following purposes:

3.1 To Provide Core App Features

• Create and manage your OpenPrep account

• Generate personalized AI study content (notes, quizzes, flashcards, mind maps)

• Save your generated notes and study material to the cloud

• Track your study progress, quiz scores, and performance

• Manage your coin balance and transaction history

• Provide your personalized exam planner and study schedule

3.2 To Improve Our Services

• Analyze usage patterns to improve app features and performance

• Fix bugs, crashes, and technical issues

• Develop new features based on student needs and usage data

• Optimize AI model selection for better content quality

3.3 To Communicate With You

• Send important app updates and feature announcements

• Deliver push notifications for daily login reminders

• Respond to support requests and feedback

• Send notifications about coin rewards and achievements

3.4 For Advertising (Free Users Only)

• Display advertisements through Google AdMob to free tier users

• Serve rewarded video ads for coin earning

• Display banner and interstitial advertisements

Pro and Elite subscribers do not receive any advertisements within the app.

4. Virtual Currency (Coins)

OpenPrep features a virtual coin system that allows users to earn and spend coins within the app. The following important terms apply to our coin system:

• OpenPrep coins are virtual currency with no real-world monetary value

• Coins cannot be transferred, exchanged, or redeemed for real money

• Coins cannot be transferred between user accounts

• Coins are earned through watching advertisements, daily logins, referrals, and other in-app activities

• Coin balances are stored securely in our Firebase database

• We reserve the right to modify coin earning rates and spending costs at any time

• Coin balances may be reset if an account is found to be engaged in fraudulent activity

The coin system is not a gambling mechanism. All coin rewards are fixed and predetermined — there are no chance-based or random reward mechanics in OpenPrep.

5. Data Storage and Security

5.1 Where We Store Your Data

Your data is stored using Google Firebase services, which operates secure cloud infrastructure. Firebase data centers comply with international security standards including ISO 27001, SOC 1, SOC 2, and SOC 3 certifications.

5.2 Local Storage

OpenPrep also stores certain data locally on your device using Hive local storage for offline access to your saved notes and faster app performance. This local data remains on your device and is not accessible to third parties.

5.3 Security Measures

• All data transmission between the app and our servers is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS

• User authentication is handled securely through Firebase Authentication

• We do not store passwords in plain text

• API keys and sensitive credentials are never stored on user devices

• Regular security audits are conducted on our systems

5.4 Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide you with our services. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where we are required to retain it for legal compliance purposes.

6. Sharing Your Information

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share your information only in the following limited circumstances:

6.1 Service Providers

We share data with trusted third-party service providers who assist us in operating the app:

• Google Firebase (authentication, database, analytics, crash reporting)

• Google AdMob (advertising for free users only)

• AI model providers (anonymized query data for content generation — no personal identifiers shared)

6.2 Legal Requirements

We may disclose your information if required by law, court order, or government authority, or if we believe disclosure is necessary to protect the rights, property, or safety of OpenPrep, our users, or the public.

6.3 Business Transfer

In the event of a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, your information may be transferred as part of the business transaction. We will notify you before your personal information is transferred and becomes subject to a different privacy policy.

7. Children's Privacy

OpenPrep is designed for users aged 13 years and above. We comply with applicable laws regarding the privacy of children.

• We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 years of age

• If a user is found to be under 13 years old, we will promptly delete their account and data

• Users between 13 and 18 years old are encouraged to review this policy with a parent or guardian

• In-app purchases require parental consent for users under 18 years of age

• Parents or guardians may contact us at any time to request deletion of their child's data

If you believe we have inadvertently collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately at the email address provided at the end of this policy.

8. Your Rights and Choices

8.1 Access and Correction

You have the right to access and update your personal information at any time through the Profile section of the OpenPrep app. You can update your name, education level, exam preferences, and language settings directly within the app.

8.2 Data Deletion

You have the right to request deletion of your personal data. To delete your account and all associated data, you can use the Delete Account option in the app Settings, or contact us directly at our support email. We will process deletion requests within 30 days.

8.3 Notification Preferences

You can manage push notification preferences through your device settings or within the OpenPrep app settings. Disabling notifications will not affect your ability to use the app.

8.4 Advertising Preferences

Free users can opt out of personalized advertising through your device's advertising settings (Google Ads Settings on Android). Non-personalized ads may still be shown to free users to support the app.

8.5 Data Portability

You may request a copy of your personal data stored with us by contacting our support team. We will provide your data in a commonly used electronic format within 30 days of your request.

9. Third-Party Services and Links

9.1 Google AdMob

9.2 Google Firebase

9.3 AI Content Generation

OpenPrep uses multiple AI services to generate study content. User queries are sent to these services to generate notes, quizzes, and other study material. We do not send personally identifiable information with these queries — only the educational topic or question you provide.

10. In-App Purchases

OpenPrep offers optional subscription plans (Pro and Elite) through Google Play billing. When you make a purchase:

• Payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play

• OpenPrep does not store your payment card information

• Subscription management is handled through your Google Play account

• Refund requests must be submitted through Google Play Store

Subscription prices are displayed in Indian Rupees (INR). All purchases are subject to Google Play's Terms of Service.

11. Cookies and Tracking

As a mobile application, OpenPrep does not use browser cookies. However, we use similar tracking technologies including:

• Firebase Analytics SDK for app usage tracking

• Firebase Crashlytics SDK for crash reporting

• Google AdMob SDK for advertising (free users)

• Device advertising identifiers (GAID on Android) for ad personalization

You can reset your device's advertising identifier through Android Settings at any time.

12. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices, features, or legal requirements. When we make changes:

• We will update the "Last Updated" date at the top of this policy

• We will notify users of significant changes through an in-app notification

• Continued use of the app after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.

Any disputes arising from this Privacy Policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts located in India.
