OpenLibrary Explorer ("we," "our," or "the App") is committed to respecting and protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy outlines how our application operates regarding user data.
1. Information We Collect
OpenLibrary Explorer does not require user registration or personal account creation.Â
- Search Queries: When you search for books, authors, or subjects, the search text is transmitted securely over HTTPS to our backend servers and the public OpenLibrary database strictly to query catalog records. We do not link these searches to your identity.
- Device & Location Information: The App inspects device locale settings (such as country code via standard system APIs) strictly on-device to format localized store search links (such as Amazon regional book listings). We do not collect, track, or store GPS location data.
2. Third-Party Services & Links
The App provides outward links to external third-party services:
- OpenLibrary.org (Book catalog and edition data)
- Internet Archive (archive.org)
- Google Books & Google Search
- Amazon (Book search listings)
When you tap an external link, you leave OpenLibrary Explorer, and the privacy practices of those respective third-party platforms govern any interactions.
3. Advertisements
At present, third-party advertising tracking networks are disabled in this release. No advertising identifiers (AAID) or tracking cookies are collected or shared with ad networks.
4. Data Retention and Security
We do not maintain user databases, profiles, passwords, or personal data records. Search queries are processed in-flight over encrypted TLS connections.
5. Children's Privacy
The App does not knowingly collect or solicit personal information from children under the age of 13.
