Openlibrary

I have a large selection of book I want to scan the barcode into an excel sheet via bluetooth scanner. (on an ongoing basis)

As I scan in the isbn #, I would like excel to automatically pull the Title and Author data from openlibrary.com API.

But that isn't the only problem - the json path above redirects to an different internal openlibrary json file, which contains most the title, and a link (not the name) to the authors OpenLibrary json.

[Update 2015-011-07] Now I have recieved the answer, I have updated the code below to show how it should be.The following will request json data from openlibrary and it will be returned as a string. the ISBN number in $url is just for testing purposes, so by all means change it.

Many Open Library actions (like creating Works and Editions) require authentication, i.e. certain requests must be provided a valid cookie of a user which has been logged in with their openlibrary account credentials. The openlibrary-client can be configured to "remember you" so you don't have to provide credentials with each request.

How do I check out a book?

You can browse the collection or search for books or authors at openlibrary.org. Use the search box in the upper right hand corner to begin. Books can be checked out by clicking the blue button which will say Read or Borrow.
