Synergizing Reasoning and Decision-Making in Open-World Environments
A NeurIPS 2024 Workshop
12/15/2024 (Full day)
East Building - MTG 1-3 + S.FOY, Vancouver Convention Center
The 1st Workshop on Open-World Agents solicits contributions that synergize reasoning and decision-making in open and interactive environments, accepting submissions of papers with both empirical and theoretical nature on the recent process of developing reasoning and decision-making agents (agentic systems) in open-world environments and their applications in various domains including robotics, digital assistants, etc. The event will be co-located with NeurIPS 2024 in Vancouver, BC, Canada on December 14th, 2024. Relevant topics include (but are not limited to):
Synergizing reasoning and decision-making, aka. Vision-Language-Action (VLA) models
Reinforcement learning in open-world environments
LLM tool-usage and language agents
Multi-modal foundation models
Reasoning under uncertainty
Open-world learning
Multi-agent systems in open-world environments
Continue learning and lifelong learning
Foundation models for decision-making
Robotics and embodied AI in open-world environments
Open-world game AI
Knowledge representation for decision-making
Human-in-the-loop learning
Benchmarks, datasets, and evaluations for open-world agents
Neuroscience and cognitive science of human reasoning and decision-making

Submissions can be up to 8 pages in NeurIPS submission format (double-blind), excluding references and supplementary material. We allow an unlimited number of pages for references and supplementary material, but reviewers are not required to review the supplementary material. Accepted papers will be presented at the workshop as contributed talks and/or posters. At the discretion of the authors, accepted papers can be published through the workshop website.
We will offer 3 outstanding paper awards. Each winning paper will receive a cash prize of 600 USD (pre-tax). The awardees will be announced during the workshop.
We welcome research papers currently under review at archival ML/CV/Robotics conferences (e.g., ICLR 2025, CVPR 2025, and ICRA 2025). Submission to this workshop will not break the anonymity or dual submission policies for these conferences. The workshop is non-archival. Please note that we do allow the submission of previously published work. However, when selecting papers for oral presentation and awards, preference is given to original works.
