About Us
OUR STORY
OPEN for Vision Impairment Research is a collective of vision impairment researchers that are striving to OPEN up research for and about vision impairment research and blindness. We have been doing research involving visually impaired participants for many years and have come across the difficulties in recruiting participants for this kind of research. In the world of research, there is a trend towards accessible science BUT this usually means that research isn't stuck behind paywalls or data is available to other scientists. It doesn't mean that OPEN science is actually accessible for the general public, or easy to access for people with visual impairments. That's where we come in!
We hope to use this site as a bridge between researchers and anyone who is interested in blindness or vision impairment research. We encourage researchers to write up their studies in a simple and easy to understand format. We also advertise current research studies for the public to get involved. Research is fun (although, I guess we would say that...)!
We held a focus group with visually impaired participants and and identified a need for better access to the results of the research they participated in. Our aim is to make research more open and also more accessible, so please do get in touch if you have any ideas for how we can make things better. And please, go ahead, and enjoy!
