Postdoctoral Research Associate – TAN’s Lab (R3‑Lab)
TAN’s Lab (R3‑Lab) at Hampton University is recruiting a highly motivated Postdoctoral Research Associate to advance research in autonomous systems, physics‑informed digital twins, and machine‑learning‑based resilience technologies. The postdoc will work under the direction of Dr. Tan Le on cutting‑edge projects involving autonomy, perception, NextG wireless networks, and intelligent systems operating in contested RF and cyber environments.
TAN’s Lab develops efficient artificial intelligence for mission‑critical autonomous and cyber‑physical systems. Our work emphasizes computationally lean, hardware‑aware models capable of real‑time operation on edge devices, autonomous platforms, and emerging quantum–classical systems.
Research areas include:
Physics‑informed digital twins for multi‑platform sensing (ground robots, UAVs, satellite‑linked systems)
RF sensing, signal classification, and heterogeneous network coexistence
Cyber‑resilient autonomy under jamming, spoofing, packet loss, and message alteration
Quantum‑encoded learning, TinyML, GNNs/GATs, and deep reinforcement learning
Trust scoring, corrupted‑data detection, reconstruction, and robust multi‑sensor fusion
Robotic networks, UAV trajectory prediction, and trustworthy NextG/O‑RAN management
Across all domains, TAN’s Lab emphasizes application‑specific efficient AI that remains reliable under uncertainty, adversarial conditions, and resource constraints.
Develop and maintain digital‑twin simulation environments
Build and evaluate ML/TinyML/QML‑based detection and trust‑scoring modules
Generate synthetic datasets representing clean and corrupted RF/cyber behavior
Integrate ML/QML modules into autonomy pipelines (ROS2, Gazebo/Ignition, Python, C++)
Conduct simulation‑based testing and mathematically grounded validation
Prepare publications, reports, and research documentation
Mentor undergraduate researchers
Collaborate with internal and external research partners
Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or related field
