OPCam ("the App") is a home security camera and video log app that turns a spare phone into HomeCam or GoCam. This policy explains what data the App handles.
1. VIDEO AND AUDIO
All video and audio recorded by the App stays on your device's local storage. Nothing is uploaded to any server, cloud, or third party. If you enable "Sync to gallery," flagged clips are copied to your phone's own Photos app — this stays on your device too.
2. WHAT OUR SERVER RECEIVES
When the App detects an event (person, pet, motion, impact, low battery, overheating, or the app being closed), it sends a short alert to your paired devices through Firebase Cloud Messaging. This alert contains only: the event type, device name, and timestamp — never video, images, or audio. Paired devices are linked using a 16-character code you share yourself; we do not collect names, emails, or phone numbers for pairing.
3. ANONYMOUS SIGN-IN
The App uses Firebase Authentication with anonymous sign-in to operate securely. This creates a random ID for your device — no personal information (name, email, phone number) is collected or required to use the App.
4. CRASH REPORTS
We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect and fix crashes. This collects technical data only (device model, OS version, app version, crash logs) — not linked to your identity, not video or personal content.
5. ADVERTISING
In select countries and regions, the App shows ads through third-party ad networks (such as Google AdMob) to support free use of the App. These networks may collect: your device's advertising identifier, IP address, and general region, used to deliver and measure ads (and personalize them, where permitted). Ads are not shown in every region — some markets remain ad-free.
You can opt out of personalized ads at any time:
• Android: Settings → Google → Ads → Delete advertising ID / Opt out of Ads Personalization.
• iOS: Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking → turn off "Allow Apps to Request to Track."
Ad networks operate under their own privacy policies; we do not control or receive your video, audio, or clips through them.
6. PERMISSIONS THE APP REQUESTS
• Camera & microphone — required to record clips (microphone is optional per recording).
• Location — used by GoCam to log GPS/speed on clips; not sent anywhere except stored locally in the clip's metadata.
• Photos/storage — to save clips and sync to your gallery.
• Notifications — to alert you and paired devices of events.
You can deny or revoke any of these in your device settings; some features will not work without the relevant permission.
7. DATA STORAGE AND DELETION
Video/audio clips are stored only on your device and deleted when you delete them in the App or uninstall the App. We do not retain any copy on our servers — we never receive it in the first place. Pairing codes and settings are stored locally on your device (SharedPreferences/local storage).
8. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
OPCam is not directed at children and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the relevant age in your country). The Nursery mode is a parental monitoring tool used by adults, not a service offered directly to children.
9. YOUR RIGHTS
Depending on your country (e.g., GDPR in the EU/UK, CCPA in California), you may have rights to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you. Since we do not store video/audio and only hold minimal technical data (crash logs, anonymous auth ID), most requests can be resolved by contacting us directly.
10. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
We may update this policy as the App changes (for example, when ads roll out to new regions). We will update the "Last updated" date above when changes are made.
