Screen addiction or digital/technology addiction, occurs when children excessively use electronic devices such as television, smartphones, tablets, computers, and video games to the point where it interferes with their daily lives, schoolwork, physical activity, social relationships and emotional well-being.
Condition, congenital or acquired, in which one or more of special senses (sight, hearing, smell, touch, taste and spatial awareness) is/are unable to function normally. Eg. visual impairment, hearing impairment
It involves regular surveillance, screening and support for problems that may emerge during infancy and early childhood; mainly for assessing neurodevelopmental progress and early identification of any problems
It is meant for infants who had a difficult antenatal and postnatal period. Eg. Preterm babies, low birth weight babies, NICU graduates, Neonatal Hypoglycemic Brain Injury, Retinopathy of Prematurity etc.
A non-progressive, static impairment in movement and posture due to deficit/lesion in developing brain which can occur in prenatal, perinatal or postnatal period
Cerebral palsy mimics are conditions which mimic signs and symptoms of cerebral palsy but have a neurogenetic, neurometabolic or neurodegenerative origin. Eg. Arginase deficiency, Mitochondrial disorders, GLUT-1 deficiency, Hereditary Spastic Paraplegia, Dopa- Responsive Dystonia etc.
A child failing in one or more subjects, or when a child's marks are below the 10th percentile in a class, or a teacher finding a child "difficult to teach"
A neurodevelopmental disorder that has impairment in cognitive (intellectual) ability and adaptive functioning of the individual in the environment.
A child with significant delay in the acquisition of milestones or skills, in one or more domains of development (i.e. gross motor, fine motor, speech/language, cognitive, personal/social, or activities of daily living)
Significant delay means discrepancy of 25% or more from expected rate, or two standard deviations lower than norm for the age
Language disorders- Difficulties in ability to communicate one's needs, desires and emotions with expected proficiency based upon one's age
Social (Pragmatic) Communication Disorders- Difficulties in using language in a social context with another person
Speech Sound Disorders- These children may be difficult to understand or unintelligible to the listener; Has omissions, deletions or substitutions of one speech sound for another
Childhood Onset of Fluency Disorder (Stuttering)- Repetition or prolongation of sounds and/or syllables
Tics- Sudden repetitive nonrhythmic movements/twitches or sounds lasting for less than a second, occurring in bouts which are paroxysmal in nature
Tourette syndrome- Multiple motor tics and one or more vocal/phonic tics lasting more than a year.
Insomnia disorders- difficulty with initiation or maintenance of sleep without caregiver intervention causing functional impairment, occurring at least 3 nights a week, for >3 months despite adequate opportunity to sleep
Sleep-related breathing disorders- like Obstructive Sleep Apnoea (OSA), central apnoea, sleep-related hypoventilation present with repeated movement of limbs, neck etc. during sleep
Central disorders of hypersomnolence (Narcolepsy)- excess sleep time during night and/or day and have difficulty in awakening after a nap
Circadian rhythm sleep-wake disorders (CRSWD)- significantly delayed sleep timing compared to desired schedule of sleeping awakening.
Sleep-related movement disorders (SRMD)
Parasomnias- events with arousal events such as sleep walking or sleep terrors occurring in sleep
Problems in feeding the child irrespective of the etiology, severity or consequences
Can range from mild deviation (feeding difficulties) to severe form (feeding disorder)
