Not all wars of the Onyx Dragons are fought in ordered lines or recorded in formal campaigns. Some unfold in shadow, through the actions of small warbands, agents, and warriors operating beyond the structure of the Chapter. These are the stories told through Deathwatch & Only War, by Fantasy Flight Games —where the hunt is shaped not by doctrine alone, but by choice, consequence, and fate.

Brother-Sergeant Kaelen Voss is a Rubicon Primaris veteran of the Onyx Dragons Chapter, forged in the armored spearhead doctrines of the 2nd Company — the Iron Claws — and now serving within the Deathwatch. A hunter of hidden wars and unseen enemies, Voss specializes in reconnaissance, tactical elimination, and identifying the true prey beneath the surface of battle.
Unlike many aggressive assault-oriented Astartes, Voss embodies the Onyx Dragons’ doctrine of controlled fury. He does not seek the loudest fight or the most visible enemy. He studies the battlefield, tracks the lie within the enemy’s movement, and strikes only when the kill is certain.
Voss first earned distinction as a Scout within the 10th Squad of the 2nd Company, operating ahead of mechanized spearheads to identify routes of advance, enemy movement, concealed artillery, and ambush corridors. Even as a young battle-brother, he displayed an unusual patience, often locating the hidden threat before the main force ever made contact.
After his elevation to full Battle-Brother, Voss served as a Tactical Marine in the 2nd Squad of the Iron Claws. There, amid armored assaults and disciplined bolter fire, he developed a reputation for identifying the true battlefield danger: enemy command nodes, hidden anti-armor weapons, synapse organisms, infiltration routes, and deception patterns buried beneath the chaos of war.
This talent eventually drew the attention of Deathwatch observers attached to an Inquisitorial operation alongside the 442nd Krieg Siege Regiment. Where the 442nd grinds the foe beneath siege, sacrifice, and relentless pressure, Voss cuts toward the heart of the conflict. He is not deployed to win glory in the clash of armies, but to find the hand guiding the bloodshed from shadow.
Having survived the Rubicon Primaris, Voss is now counted among the Reforged Scale — one who entered the fire and returned stronger, his body remade but his oath unbroken. Within the Deathwatch, he serves as a field leader, hunter-killer specialist, and stabilizing presence during high-risk xenos and corruption containment operations.
When Voss stops moving, something important is about to die.
Brother-Techmarine Gerhardt Kord is a Black Templars Primaris Techmarine sworn to the Long Vigil of the Deathwatch. Forged in the Indomitus era and trained in the sacred machine-rites of Mars, Gerhardt carries both the fury of the crusader and the discipline of the forge. To him, every weapon is an oath given form, every suit of armour a shrine, and every machine-spirit a servant of the Emperor’s will.
Though some older warriors still regard him as unproven, Gerhardt answers doubt with deed rather than word. He advances with the kill-team into the breach, restoring damaged war-plate, silencing corrupted engines, and tearing open xenos vaults with cold, methodical purpose. His faith is severe, his patience limited, and his hatred of alien artifice absolute.
Where others see broken machinery, Gerhardt sees a test of devotion. Where others see forbidden technology, he sees a blasphemy waiting to be burned.
