What is Artificial Intelligence ?
Artificial Intelligence (AI) is a part of computer science concerned with the design of computer systems which exhibits the attributes of Human Intelligence. AI is a program that can sense, reason, act and adapt. AI term was first coined by McCarthy in 1956. Artificial Intelligence is made up of two terms, artificial and intelligence. Artificial means not natural i.e., made by humans and intelligence means the ability to acquire and apply knowledge and skills. The purpose of AI is to build useful new tools not only for commercial purposes but also to improve the life style of humans.
How AI Programs are different from Conventional Programs ?
- Conventional programs have definite algorithms i.e. completely well defined steps of solution while there is no definite algorithms for AI programs.
- Conventional programs uses data structures like arrays, records, lists while AI programs uses knowledge representation schemes such as semantic nets, predicate logic, etc.
- Conventional programs have predefined data whereas AI programs have dynamic data.
Application Areas of Artificial Intelligence
AI has a vast scope. Today, almost in each and every field there is AI whether it is day to day activities or occasionally happening things. Some of the examples of usage of AI are given below:
- Navigation: Google find the fastest route, by processing traffic data using AI.
- Ride Sharing: Uber & Lyft predict real-time demand using AI techniques, machine learning, deep learning.
- Social Media: Facebook & Twitter use AI to decide what content to present in their feeds to different audiences.
- IoT and AI: Internet of Things (IoT) has interrupted various businesses in the recent past in a fine way, and it's integration with AI to enhance its useful impact in our lives. The industrial IoT is first in line to get assimilation with AI for problem detection in machinery, prior detection of problems, and the inspection of situations in order to predict more effective steps in the future.
