It’s Important to Grade Promptly
One of the most common complaints on student course evaluations is “the instructor took too long to grade my work.” Students use their grades, and the feedback you provide along with their grades, to understand how well they are doing in the course and what they need to do differently going forward.
We recommend that you grade student assignments and exams within a few days of submission. This allows students enough time to use your feedback to make changes to their discussions and assignments in the following module. This is especially important in the Graduate School, where a three-credit course occurs in just 8-weeks. If we are a week behind in our grading, students cannot use our feedback to advance and, as a result, their grade and motivation suffer.
