APEX courses are intended for credit recovery in PLCS. Online Learning courses require students to commit to a consistent amount of time each week to coursework. They will closely resemble a college level course from a design and pacing perspective, but teachers are intentional about supporting students so they develop the skills to be successful in their first fully online experience.
The start dates and end dates of your courses correspond with the PLCS district calendar. Your work will begin and end on the same dates as your in-person classes.
All courses are taught by highly qualified Papillion La Vista Community Schools teachers who are committed not only to facilitating a unique learning experience, but also providing the support all learners need. Some courses may be taught by a teacher in your home high school, while others may not. This will vary depending on the semester you choose to enroll in the course.
Grading will be very similar to an in-person course at your home high school (formative and summative grades on a 100 point scale). Assignment and assessment grades will be stored in the Canvas gradebook while cumulative totals for each quarter will be imported in to SIMS.
Online courses cover the same content offered in your home high schools and the workload will be similar. However, since this course doesn't meet in-person, time management will be a skill students need to be successful.
Assignments and assessments will have specific deadlines which will be posted within each Canvas course. Prior to deadlines, you will have the flexibility to complete coursework when and where you'd like.
Follow the registration guidelines at your home high school and speak to your counselor about Online Learning Courses.
