Public transport fares are ridiculous right now. Scotrail returns regularly exceed £30, and it costs over £6 just to use the bus one day in Glasgow - that isn't sustainable. While young people get free bus travel, they have to deal with the cliff edge of turning 22, losing their bus pass and paying ridiculous amounts just to get about, sometimes needing 3 different tickets just to commute to school – this solves that. As well, far too many people are forced away from public transport due to the abhorrent prices, and opt for the environmentally-damaging, congestion-causing cars that have taken over our streets - this solves that.

Multi-modal transport is where many different forms of transport are used in one commute - trains, buses, ferries, bikes, etc. - and we must support it more. OneTicket is a card like no other - it'll work for everything! You name it: OneTicket can work on it. In Glasgow, it can take 4 different forms of transport just to get to work - that used to be 4 tickets, now it's just one. It includes options so everyone can get the benefit of the scheme: 

1. Tap-on, tap-off where your cost is calculated by distance, not by the modes of transport available which you can't control; 

2. Seasonal passes for frequent commuters to use in certain zones - where you can then get unlimited, heavily discounted travel all the time;

3. And within all that, a cap on rail fares so you can access anywhere in Scotland for cheaper.

European partners so close as Denmark and Ireland already have these schemes, with proven savings of up to 40% on every journey - a day-trip in Dublin is just £1! So why is that not the case for Scotland? We already have a publicly-owned rail operator, and this can be a catalyst to real change. In rural communities infrastructure is simply not good enough, and OneTicket can solve that too. By decreasing fares and taking away the barriers to public transport, we can show operators that investing in infrastructure can pay dividends without needing massive fares - and make sure every Scot has access to frequent, cheap travel.

Multi-modal transport allows us to be connected so much better, for less. This campaign will improve Scotland’s connectivity dramatically and make sure no matter how you need to get somewhere, you can.
