Specimen collection involves obtaining samples of bodily fluids or tissues for laboratory testing to diagnose or monitor health conditions. Common types of specimens include blood, urine, stool, sputum, throat swabs, and tissue biopsies, each collected using specific methods like venipuncture, swabbing, or aspiration. Proper handling, labeling, and transport are crucial to maintain sample integrity and ensure accurate results. 

Laboratory data normal values are reference ranges used to interpret test results and assess a person's health. Common normal values include a white blood cell count of 4,500–11,000 cells/µL, glucose levels of 70–99 mg/dL (fasting), and total cholesterol under 200 mg/dL. For liver function, ALT and AST levels should be 7–56 U/L and 10–40 U/L, respectively. Sodium levels typically range from 135–145 mEq/L, and for lipid profiles, LDL cholesterol should be below 100 mg/dL while HDL is ideally 40–60 mg/dL for men and 50–60 mg/dL for women. These values help healthcare providers evaluate health conditions and diagnose potential issues.

The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test measures PSA levels to screen for prostate cancer.
