If you want durable, bass-heavy headphones for long studio sessions or casual listening with a coiled cord that reaches your gear, choose OneOdio DJ Hi-Res Over-Ear; if you need precise, neutral sound reproduction for critical mixing and a premium build with replaceable memory foam, choose Austrian Audio Hi-X20. I am writing this because the choice between these two wired over-ear models often comes down to a single question: do you prioritize raw power and convenience, or do you demand absolute sonic accuracy? Many buyers get stuck trying to find best headband headphones for workout scenarios, but neither of these is designed for that specific activity. They are both heavy, closed-back, wired monitors meant for stationary use. However, understanding their distinct engineering philosophies helps you decide which tool fits your specific audio workflow.
• OneOdio DJ Hi-Res Over-Ear offers powerful bass response and a 9.8-foot coiled cable for immediate reach, making it ideal for DJs and producers who need isolation without hassle, though it lacks the ultra-neutral clarity required for high-end mastering.
• Austrian Audio Hi-X20 delivers professional-grade frequency extension from 12 Hz to 24 kHz with balanced mids and lows, featuring a robust metal frame and memory foam pads for long-term comfort, but it carries a heavier 400g weight that might fatigue some users.
• The OneOdio pick is for the budget-conscious creator who needs reliable monitoring and a sturdy connection without breaking the bank.
• The Austrian Audio pick is for the discerning engineer or audiophile who refuses to compromise on detail retrieval and wants a headphone that can handle complex tracks without coloration.
The OneOdio DJ Hi-Res Over-Ear is built with a clear mission: to provide a dynamic, engaging listening experience that emphasizes low-end punch without requiring an external amplifier. At its core lies a 50-millimeter driver unit paired with neodymium magnets. This combination is specifically tuned to deliver what many call "bass sound," creating a visceral impact that feels right at home when mixing hip-hop, electronic dance music, or rock. If you are working in a genre where the kick drum and bassline are the foundation of the track, this headphone ensures those elements hit with the necessary authority. The 32-ohm impedance makes it easy to drive, meaning you can plug it directly into a phone, a laptop, or a mixer and get loud, clear sound immediately.

Comfort is another major pillar of this design. The ear cushions are soft and padded, designed to create a seal that isolates external noise while keeping pressure off the ears during marathon sessions. The headband is adjustable and stretchable, allowing you to find a fit that distributes weight evenly. Perhaps the most practical feature for a working environment is the included 9.8-foot coiled cord. This length stretches easily from a computer tower or a mixing desk to a chair, giving you freedom of movement without dealing with tangled wires. It also includes both a standard 3.5mm jack and a larger 6.35mm adapter, ensuring compatibility with almost any piece of audio equipment you own.
However, this headphone is not for everyone. Its tuning leans heavily toward a fun, energetic sound signature rather than clinical neutrality. If your job requires you to hear every subtle imperfection in a vocal take or to distinguish between two instruments playing in the same frequency range, the boosted bass here might mask those details. Furthermore, while the build uses metal components for durability, the overall weight is 250 grams, which is light, but the design prioritizes a classic DJ aesthetic over the sleek, minimalist look of modern studio monitors. It is a fantastic tool for monitoring, recording, and podcasting, provided you accept its specific sonic character.
The Austrian Audio Hi-X20 enters the conversation as a serious contender for anyone who treats audio as a precision craft. Unlike the OneOdio, which focuses on impact, the Hi-X20 focuses on fidelity. It utilizes proprietary 44-millimeter Hi-X drivers, a technology designed to minimize distortion even at high volumes. The result is a soundstage that is incredibly wide and detailed, capable of reproducing frequencies from 12 Hz up to 24 kHz. This extended range means you will hear the very bottom of the sub-bass spectrum and the highest, most airy harmonics of a cymbal crash with crystal clarity. For mixing engineers, this transparency is non-negotiable; it allows you to make decisions based on what the recording actually sounds like, rather than what a colored speaker system tells you.
Build quality is where the Hi-X20 truly distinguishes itself as a professional instrument. The enclosure features metal components for stability, giving it a sense of permanence and ruggedness that suggests it can survive years of travel and daily studio abuse. The ear cups fold and swivel, making storage compact, and the package includes a carry bag to protect the investment. The memory foam earpads are replaceable, a rare feature at this level that extends the lifespan of the product significantly. When you wear them, the closed-back design provides excellent sound isolation, blocking out the chaos of a busy studio so you can focus entirely on the mix. The 25-ohm impedance is low enough to work with portable players, yet high enough to ensure the drivers have control and don't distort under load.
That said, the Hi-X20 demands a bit more from the user and their physical tolerance. Weighing in at 400 grams, it is noticeably heavier than the OneOdio. While the memory foam distributes this weight well, it may feel substantial during extremely long sessions compared to lighter alternatives. Additionally, the sound profile is strictly neutral. If you are looking for a headphone that adds a "fun" flavor to your music, you might find the Hi-X20 too dry or analytical. It does not try to please the listener; it tries to inform them. This makes it perfect for critical listening and production, but perhaps less appealing for someone just wanting to vibe to a playlist on a commute.

It is important to note that neither of these products is suitable for active exercise. If you are searching for ipx7 waterproof headphones for workout, you will be disappointed by these designs. They are not water-resistant, they are not sweat-proof, and they are not designed to stay on your head while running. Similarly, if you are looking for best neckband headphones for workout, these over-ear models will not work for you. They are stationary tools meant for desks, studios, and home setups. Trying to use either the OneOdio or the Austrian Audio Hi-X20 while jogging or lifting weights would be impractical and potentially damaging to the equipment. They are serious pieces of audio gear for serious listening environments.
After weighing the specifications and design philosophies, I would buy the Austrian Audio Hi-X20 for my primary studio setup. The ability to replace the ear pads and the superior frequency response give me confidence that this headphone will serve me for years without needing an upgrade. The 400-gram weight is a trade-off I am willing to make for the sake of hearing every nuance in a mix. However, if my budget was tighter or I needed something specifically for quick DJ checks where a coiled cord is essential, the OneOdio would be my backup. Ultimately, for anyone looking for a headphone that respects the integrity of the source material, the Hi-X20 is the stronger choice, even though it is not a good option for workout scenarios.
No, neither model is waterproof or sweat-resistant, making them unsuitable for exercise. You should look for specific sports-rated gear instead.
Neither of these headphones has a battery. Both are wired devices that require a direct connection to an audio source to function.

Yes, both support standard 3.5mm connections, and the OneOdio specifically lists compatibility with keyboards and guitars via its included adapters.
