About the Musician
Ed Madej has been playing cello since the age of ten. He is a classically trained musician and a licensed music educator. Ed has performed in the Youngstown Symphony Orchestra for over 30 years. He has performed with Barry Manilow, Earth Wind & Fire, Three Dog Night, Kenny Loggins, Michael W. Smith, and many other national artists. He recorded an album with Youngstown's own Glass Harp as well as a holiday album with the Symphony.
Mr. Madej has been an orchestra director for over 25 years. He was trained in the Suzuki method of string instruction and has offered private music lessons to cello and violin students from surrounding school districts. Ed enjoys playing with the praise bands at his church.
Ed's love of music began with trips to the symphony with his parents and violin lessons at age seven. During his high school years, his musical tastes mirrored the music of the times as he performed as a guitarist and bassist. Ed attended the Dana School of Music on a music scholarship. He went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree from Malone College, and a Master of Arts degree from the University of Northern Iowa. He has an eclectic musical taste and repertoire, reflected in the collection of tunes he offers as One Cello.
Ed resides in Boardman with his wife, Cindi, and numerous pets. They are the parents of five grown children. On a typical day, Ed can be found enjoying the outdoors working on landscaping projects or just about any outdoor activity.
