Word A Day ("the App", "we", "us", or "our") is a vocabulary learning application for Android. This Privacy Policy explains what information is collected when you use the App, how it is used, and what choices you have.

## 1. Summary
Word A Day is designed to work primarily **offline**. We do not require you to create an account. Most data stays on your device. The App shows ads through Google AdMob, which may collect certain device and usage information as described below.

## 2. Information We Collect
### 2.1 Data stored locally on your device
The App stores the following information on your device using local storage (AsyncStorage). This data is **not transmitted to our servers**:

You can delete this data at any time by uninstalling the App or clearing the App's storage in your device settings.
### 2.2 Advertising data (Google AdMob)
The App displays banner advertisements provided by **Google AdMob**. When ads are shown, Google may automatically collect information such as:
- Device identifiers (e.g. Advertising ID)
- IP address
- Device type, operating system, and language
- Ad interaction and impression data
This data is collected and processed by **Google**, not by us directly. We do not receive personally identifiable information from Google through the ad service.

### 2.3 Notifications
If you enable **Daily Reminder**, the App schedules **local notifications** on your device at your chosen time. These notifications are generated entirely on your device. We do not send push notifications from a server, and no notification data is transmitted to us or any third party.
The App will ask for your permission before sending notifications (required on Android 13 and later).

## 3. Information We Do NOT Collect
We do **not** collect, store, or transmit:
- Name, email address, phone number, or postal address
- User accounts or login credentials
- Precise location (GPS)
- Contacts, photos, or files from your device
- Health, financial, or payment information
- A backend database of user activity
The App does not include third-party analytics SDKs (e.g. Firebase Analytics) beyond what Google AdMob may collect for ad serving.

## 4. How We Use Information
We use locally stored data solely to:
- Show your daily word and past words via the calendar
- Calculate streaks and unlock achievements
- Remember your reminder preferences
- Restrict calendar browsing to dates on or after your join date
We do not sell your personal information.

Word A Day is not directed at children under the age of 13 (or the applicable age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us and we will take steps to delete it.

## 9. Your Rights and Choices
Depending on your location, you may have rights regarding your personal data, including the right to access, correct, or delete data we hold about you.
**Within the App:**
- Disable daily reminders at any time on the Home screen
- Clear all local data by uninstalling the App or clearing app storage
**Advertising choices:**
- Android: Settings → Google → Ads → opt out of Ads Personalization
- Reset your Advertising ID in your device settings

## 10. Data Security
Local data is stored using your device's standard secure storage mechanisms. Because data stays on your device, it is protected by your device's own security (screen lock, encryption, etc.). No method of electronic storage is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect information within the App's design.

## 11. International Users
The App is available internationally. If you use the App from outside your country of residence, your information (including data processed by Google AdMob) may be transferred to and processed in countries with different data protection laws, including the United States.

## 12. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this document. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
For significant changes, we may provide additional notice within the App or on our website.
