Privacy Policy — OnBuy Profit Calculator
Last updated: June 2026
SUMMARY
This extension does not collect, transmit, or share any personal data with us or any third party. Calculation history is stored locally on your device only. The optional EAN/OPC lookup feature opens OnBuy product pages in a background browser tab solely to read publicly visible product information (price, title, category) and never sends this data anywhere except into your own calculator.
1. INFORMATION WE COLLECT
The Extension does not collect any personal information, browsing history, or identifying data that is transmitted to us. The only information processed is:
- Calculator inputs you manually enter (sell price, source price, category, shipping cost)
- The EAN/OPC code you enter for product lookup
- Your calculation history (up to the last 20 calculations), saved for your convenience
This data is entered directly by you and is never automatically collected from any webpage you did not request.
2. HOW THE EAN/OPC LOOKUP FEATURE WORKS
When you enter an EAN, OPC code, or paste an OnBuy product URL and click "Find", the Extension opens a hidden background browser tab to search for that product — first on www.onbuy.com, and if no match is found there, as a fallback on www.google.com using a site-restricted search query. It then reads the publicly visible product page (title, price, category, image, seller count) from the matching OnBuy product page. This information is read once, displayed to you in the calculator, and is not stored on any external server or shared with any third party. The background tab(s) are closed automatically after the lookup completes.
Separately, if you open the Extension while already viewing an OnBuy product page in your active browser tab, the Extension checks the URL of that tab and, if it is an OnBuy product page, reads the same publicly visible product details directly from it to auto-fill the calculator. No new tab is opened for this and no data is sent anywhere — it only reads the page you are already looking at.
3. HOW INFORMATION IS STORED
All calculation history is stored locally on your device using Chrome's built-in chrome.storage.local API. This means:
- Your data never leaves your computer
- Nothing is sent to any external server, database, or third party operated by us
- We (the developer) have no access to your calculations or history
- Uninstalling the extension permanently deletes all locally stored data
4. THIRD-PARTY SHARING
We do not share, sell, rent, or transmit any user data to third parties. There are no analytics, tracking scripts, or advertising SDKs included in this extension.
5. PERMISSIONS USED
The Extension requests the following Chrome permissions:
- storage — used to save your calculation history locally on your device, so it persists between sessions.
- tabs and scripting — used only to open background tabs on www.onbuy.com (and, as a fallback, www.google.com) when you use the EAN/OPC lookup feature, read the publicly visible product details, and then close the tab.
- host permissions for www.onbuy.com and www.google.com — required so the lookup feature can search for and read OnBuy product pages on your behalf when you choose to use it.
The Extension does not request access to any other website and does not monitor your general browsing activity.
6. CHILDREN'S PRIVACY
This Extension is a business tool intended for e-commerce sellers and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.
7. CHANGES TO THIS POLICY
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a revised "Last updated" date.
