I have been actively training in voice/musical theatre for almost 10 years and been involved in the performing arts for as long as I can remember and decided to pursue Theatre Performance and Theatre Education when I was 17 after years of involvement in the craft. I have most recently been seen on stage as Gertrude McFuzz in Seussical the Musical, Cinderella in Into the Woods, Electra in Gypsy, Hedy LaRue in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and Hope Cladwell in Urinetown. I am an alumni of the Open Jar Institute's Musical Theatre Intensive Program located in NYC and was named a finalist for the Richard Maltby Jr. Musical Theatre Excellence Scholarship through the Kennedy Center in January of 2020.
In the Spring of 2020 I graduated from Bridgewater State University with Degrees in Theatre Education and Secondary Education with a minor in Musical Theatre Performance and was granted my teaching license in Theatre Education (All Levels) with an SEI endorsement in June of the same year. I spent January through May of 2020 fulfilling my student teaching placement in the Middle School Theatre and Dance Program at Rising Tide Charter Public School in Plymouth, both in person and remotely upon the state mandated school closures. Being able to participate in the shift to virtual learning amidst the COVID-19 outbreak was very challenging. However, it taught me so many things about myself and my craft as an educator in the performing arts; a highly involved, physical field which posed its own set of roadblocks in adapting classroom instruction to work in the world of distance learning. In the end, I learned that as an educator, I would do whatever necessary to meet the needs of my students, even if it meant just checking in to make them smile. I am currently working in my dream role as an inner city Middle School Theatre Teacher at Normandin Middle School in New Bedford, MA. I also teach private lessons and small group classes in voice, acting, musical theatre, and various genres of dance at the Burt Wood School Of Performing arts in Middleboro. MA. Even though I have been quite the performer since I was very young, I have also always wanted to be an educator. Being able to now combine the two passions that I love, theatre and education, as the constant in my life allows my career to never truly feel like I am “working”.
