Dr. Omar Abbaas is an Assistant Professor in the department of Mechanical Engineering at The University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). He has a dual title Ph.D. degree in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from The Pennsylvania State University. In addition, he received an M.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from The Pennsylvania State University, an M.S. degree in Industrial and Systems Engineering from The State University of New York (SUNY) at Binghamton, and a B.S. degree in Industrial Engineering from Jordan University of Science and Technology.
Dr. Abbaas has a diverse experience in academia and industry. He worked as a black belt process improvement leader for one of the major truckload carriers in the U.S., a business analyst at an engineering consulting company, and a sheet metal design engineer in one of the leading manufacturing companies in Jordan. In addition, he has several publications and manuscripts in the areas of operations research, supply chain management, alternative fuel distribution, and scheduling. His research interests include smart manufacturing, smart supply chain, cyber-physical systems, scheduling, network optimization, transportation, logistics, inventory management, facility layout and material handling, revenue management, alternative fuel distribution, quality and reliability, agent-based optimization, and combinatorial auctions.
