Soaring dragons coaster

Intro

Soaring Dragons is the first of its kind Cantilevered Coaster (see below for technical details), allowing both riders and onlookers a unique visual of a trackless ride appearing simply to be in flight. This combined with the design of the train and a unique soundscape make for an immersive experience of being on a dragons flight.

Guests will enter through a traditional Moon Gate into a stone plaza with a soothing pond and small waterfall surrounded by lush greenery. A stone altar sits in the middle of the pond with gold coins and red ribbons (any coins tossed in by guests are collected and donated to the Make-A-Wish Foundation). Particularly observant guests will notice stone dragon statues hidden among the foliage and behind the waterfall. The path continues to wind around serene nature with bright red lanterns appearing in the trees as guests approach the loading area.

Loading

Guests pass through another Moon Gate that opens into a wider loading area covered in flyers for the other restaurants, shops, and street shows in the land, as well as information flyers for the lore of the different types of dragons rumored to live in this area. Guests are then navigated into rows of two to await their dragon. Guests can be seated on one of five dragons, red, blue, black, white and - if they are so lucky - gold (the gold dragon is used in case of maintenance on one of the other four).

Ride

Once seated and secure the ride starts calm and scenic seemingly on a track through beautiful landscape before starting a climb through the treetops until suddenly the track seems to break away right as the view of the land becomes clear. The dragon starts to drop before guests hear the dragon growl and suddenly they are flying in twists and turns through the forest. The final drop of the ride leads guests down into a misty splash in the river before the audio of the breathing dragon stops and suddenly they are back on a track leading to the unload bay. Guests walk back out through one last Moon Gate into the land awaiting their next adventure.

Disney's Cantileavered Coaster Ride System

This attraction will see the unveiling of an all-new coaster patent from Walt Disney Imagineering. The Cantilevered Coaster is Disney’s answer to the Boom Coaster devised by Universal Creative. Theme park fans expect to see the Boom Coaster premier with the anticipated Donkey Kong coaster.

Like the Boom Coaster, Disney’s Cantilevered Coaster will place train cars high above the track. Cars are suspended on a 5-foot-long arm. The coaster track itself is entirely hidden from guest view, covered up by thematic elements. The arms are obscured as much as possible too. Unlike the Boom Coaster, the Cantilevered Coaster features multi-car trains. These trains, designed to resemble Chinese parade dragons, appear to “tracklessly” fly and leap across a fully themed environment. This is an incredibly appealing sight for both riders and onlookers.

Technically, outside of the support arms, the Cantilevered Coaster is relatively simple. It uses a basic chain lift, while the following layout is studiously simple – twists & turns & minor dips. Curves are wider to account for riders’ elevated heartlines. Intensity is minimal, comparable to Seven Dwarfs Mine Train. Stats are similar, with a 38” height requirement, a 40’ total coaster height, and 5-car trains able to seat 20 total riders.
