Having worked in British Curriculum, IB and Student led learning settings for the past ten years, I have become particularly interested in empowering students to navigate real-world, student-led projects both within and outside of Design class.
In order to do this, I work collaboratively with teachers across the school to facilitate meaningful, transdisciplinary learning experiences which the students approach using Design methodology.
As designers students:
- empathize with users in order to create innovative solutions that meet their needs
- use Design Thinking and/or The Design Cycle to navigate their projects
- collaborate to push the boundaries of projects and deepen learning
- make their thinking visible and test concepts through drawing and modeling
- utilize a vast range of materials, tools, machines, CAD/CAM and digital platforms to produce high-quality outcomes and exhibit their work
- engage with real-world challenges, locally and globally
- learn from the past and design for a sustainable, ethical future
- reflect, learn from failure, maintain a growth mindset, embrace the unknown and relish difficult challenges
I strive to learn as much as the students do, as they work to shape their world for the better!
