24-hour period Lemons is a club for any BOW student who wants to learn more about vehicles, regardless of their skill level or knowledge.
Lemons began as a club at Olin College of Engineering in 2016. The Lemons program was restarted in 2021, after delving into the history of the cars. The Lemons crew wants to keep working on "Olga," a 1988 Mercedes-Benz 300E, to restore it to racing condition. In the future, the team wants to begin development on a gifted Volkswagen Golf from the ground up.
“For us, every lap was a victory lap. We began just hoping that we would pass tech. From there, even 24 laps seemed like a stretch. The fact that we not only ran the full race, but won the IOE had us in disbelief” - Alexander Scott, former Olin Lemons Team Member
“Bringing a car that should never go anywhere near a race track, but is so mechanically sound that it manages to finish the entire race.”
24 Hours of Lemons is a vehicle-related competition for those of looking to get into track racing on a budget. Our Lemons team introduces students to a wide range of mechanical vehicle activities, adhering to strict safety standards, while developing close teamwork. Students on the team, helps develop critical thinking skills as well as a better grasp of vehicle mechanics. They must also address unique difficulties, such as identifying the most cost-effective way to obtain several essential components of safety equipment and features, and install them in the car. In the end, we are an inclusive and hands-on learning environment where we like to get our hands dirty.
