Plant life, just like animal life, started in the waters of Mars. Don't look too close here i need to research paleo-botany
The plants of mars have primarily carotenoids and phycoerythrin as their photosynthetic pigments which make them appear varying shades of orange and red.
They developed a suction cup like base, for anchoring themselves to rocky ground. Many also developed hook structures to help anchor themselves to looser substrates.
Early land plants are small and lack vascular structures, just like the early land plants of Earth. They retained the suction cup base because water and nutrients diffuse directly into their tissues.
