Hi @PaulSmith1,

Thank you for your post and welcome to our community forums. We're here to help.

It's a shame to hear that incoming calls are acting differently. Have you tried calling the number yourself from a different phone? Are you having any trouble making and/or receiving calls?

Thanks,

Hi, thanks for the reply. I have tried calling my landline from my mobile and experience the same strange ringtone. Calls connect ok when the landline is answered and I have no problem in making calls either. My only real concern is, that when anyone attempts to call my landline that they may mistaking think they have incorrectly dialled or worse, called an international number, as it sounds the same as calling somewhere like the USA.

Each phone has a default volume setting for its ringing and sound. It can be soft, loud, high-pitched, or low-pitched. For someone with high-frequency hearing loss (which is most common), a soft, high-pitched ringtone may be virtually impossible to hear, especially without hearing aids. While most landline phones and cell phones allow you to adjust the volume, even the maximum level may not be loud enough to serve someone with hearing loss.

Landlines typically have a standard ringtone made up of two or three frequencies that, in North America, have the pattern of two seconds of ringing followed by a four-second pause. A cell phone has more ringtone options, with different tunes and rhythms, that can be set based on your preference.

The ideal ringtone for you will depend on the configuration and your degree of hearing loss. If you have a high-frequency hearing loss, a low-pitched ringtone may be preferable. Alternatively, very loud ringtones may be an option.

More high-tech options for landlines include using a telephone amplifier, such as the Clarity Super Loud Phone Ringer, which increases the volume and allows you to adjust the tone. There are also many alert systems available that use flashing lights and/or vibrations to let you know that someone is trying to contact you. Examples include the Bellman Visit Home Alerting System, the Clarity AlertMaster Device, and the Deluxe Sonic Alert Transmitter.

All these systems consist of a transmitter that attaches to your landline (as well as your doorbell, alarm clock, and fire alarm) and wirelessly connects to a receiver that flashes and vibrates when triggered. Many come with pagers that tell you which appliance has been activated (such as the doorbell or landline). They have options that include multiple receivers that you can place in each room, or wearable devices that can be with you constantly.

So what about when your phone is not within sight? Smartwatches are becoming increasingly popular as exercise and health monitors, but also as a call and notification alert. Wirelessly connected to your cell phone, you can set them to vibrate, flash, and/or make a sound, and even identify who is calling.

As speaking on the phone is one of the biggest barriers for a person with hearing impairment, technology in this area is constantly evolving. The simplest is to increase the volume of your calls or listen over the loudspeaker. However, this can distort the sound and make it even less comprehensible.

In the last five years iPhones, and more recently Android devices, have become hearing aid compatible. Using 2.4GHz and Bluetooth technology, certain hearing aids can stream sound directly from the cell phone, making phone calls clearer and easier to understand than ever before. Other hearing aids come with a wearable streamer appliance that connects the phone and hearing aids for improved sound quality.

In the United States, people with hearing loss can receive a free captioned landline via the Americans with Disabilities Act. You will just need your hearing health professional or doctor to sign a certificate confirming your hearing loss. Companies that offer these phones include CapTel, CaptionCall, ClearCaptions, and InnoCaption. The phones are telecoil-compatible, user-friendly, and come with extra-large screens and adjustable font sizes to read the conversation. Some even have the option to adjust the sound of the phone based on your audiogram so the sound is optimized for you at the same time as the captions.

My landline telephone is getting a dial tone and can make and receive calls, but it just doesn't ring out, and no ringing when an incomming call comes in. I've checked all volume settings etc. There is a Cat5e at the phone point and not sure if that's the issue?

The second reason is that, depending on your in-home wiring and if you have more than one phone point in your home, your internal wiring can be causing no ringer noise.

I'd say if you have more than 3 sockets in your premises, the best way to improve internet speed and telephone reliableness is to disconnect all lines except the wall sockets your telephone and internet connection is using.

As a technician, I actually repaired one family's internet connection with your exact same ringer issue by disconnecting all the sockets in the house from a star-wired configuration.

So, listen, if you are residing in an older house perhaps, it might just pay to engage a telephone/internet technician to either rewire your home and replace your sockets, and if the problem still exists, engage your ISP for further action.

TIP: Even if you're connected on the NBN network and using a VDSL modem, the same theory principles are involved when your handset is plugged into the FXS phone port of your router.

This is a simple external ringer for a landline telephone. Have you ever missed an important call because you didn't hear the phone? Or maybe you'd rather not wait by the phone for that special someone? Then this is exactly what you need! This ringer will allow you to hear incoming calls throughout the house or even outside, hopefully giving you enough time to actually answer.

It's a very simple circuit. When a call is made, an AC signal between 60 and 120 volts is imposed over the DC loop supply. When the answering party picks up the phone, current is drawn from the loop supply and signals the ringing generator to de-engergize.

The capacitor is placed in series with the primary winding of the transformer to prevent it from drawing direct current and signaling that the line is busy. When a call is received the AC voltage is stepped down and rectified to power the buzzer.

You will need a small hole in the side to run the wires out of, and small holes to bolt the transformer and buzzer in and holes to mount the box with. I also drilled holes in the top of the box so you could hear the speaker better. Make sure that they are small enough that nothing can get inside.

There are just two wires on the phone line and polarity doesn't matter. Just be careful not to disturb the other wires while you are connecting it, and be very careful because there is 50 volts present at all times. You should disconnect the the phone line while working on it.

3. Check the weather when experiencing this problem. Electrical storms, heavy precipitation, excessively strong winds and other natural phenomenon can interfere with phone reception -- particularly if you're using a cordless phone. If this problem only happens when the weather is bad, try again when the storm has passed and/or switch to a corded phone.

There's a very good chance that your phone could be on privacy mode. This feature makes your phone not ring for a certain period of time despite being called. If I were you, I would open up the menu and see if you can find and disable this feature.

You could have the ringer volume set at zero. Another way this can happen is if you have two many phone extensions all plugged in and their ringers on. This uses more power than can be supplied and the ringers don't work. Basically, 2 options.

I was told in their video press and hold * for three seconds. That is garbage, here is the real answer press and hold 0 for three seconds. I had to find this out for myself just by trying different buttons. I could not turn silent mode off from the menu but this worked.

My phone set is the KX-TGD532W.

When you hear a ringtone signal in the calling phone, short out the two wires in the telephone cable socket with a screwdriver or a pair of scissors etc and check if the ringtone signal that you are hearing in the phone you are calling from stops.

If you hear a busy signal or there is no signal at all, disconnect the base station from the telephone line socket in the premises and then call the number again and check what signal you hear.

First, check all the phone cables to ensure they are plugged in securely. Ifthat doesn't work, try unplugging the phone from the wall outlet and plugging itback in. You may also need to replace the telephone cord.

Community Phone provides excellent home phone service without tying your phoneto the internet or copper connections. Its landline base works off cellularnetworks, providing solid coverage across 99% of the US, including rural andlow-reception areas.

It can be frustrating if you have a landline phone and no dial tone. There areseveral possible causes of this problem. This article will explore six typicalreasons for no dial tone on your phone line.

An incorrect landline setup is one possible cause of no dial tone on your phoneline. Suppose you have recently moved or had your landline service installed. Inthat case, it is possible that the technician did not correctly connect yourphone line. This can be easily fixed by calling your service provider and havingthem send a technician to correct the issue.

Another possible cause of no dial tone on your phone line is a damaged ordisconnected phone cord. Ensure that your phone cord and the wall jack aresecurely connected to your phone. If the cable appears damaged, you may need toreplace it.

If you have a DSL internet connection, you may need to use filters on yourtelephone line. These filters prevent interference between your phone andinternet service. If you do not have filters installed, or if they are notcorrectly connected, it could cause no dial tone on your phone line. 152ee80cbc
