Fall is seed harvest time! Many of the flowering plants we sold at the market have likely been pollinated in our nursery or maybe on your property when you brought the plant home. Collecting, stratifying (replicating the environmental process of winter weathering) and planting seeds from your plants is a great way to inexpensively expand your garden with more plants. We'll be posting some videos that will help you harvest the seeds from your plants. You can also harvest seeds from other plants you come across in the landscape, but it is important to have permission from the property owner before you do this and also take into consideration the ecological impact to the plant population of that area and the wildlife who rely on that population. If you come across a plant community with many seeds available, please take a few and leave the rest. If you come across a plant community with few seeds available, it is very important to leave all undisturbed to allow that community to continue to grow by leaving the seeds alone. If you are unsure if there are enough, just leave them be.
September 6 was our last date at the Burlington County Farmer's Market for 2025. We're grateful to have met so many people interested in native plants and thank the wonderful staff of the Farmer's Market and Burlington County Agricultural Center for allowing us to join New Jersey's best Farmer's Market (vote here!)
