YAMATO SHIGUSA WEBSITE
It embodies the spirit of gratitude, thoughtfulness, respect, responsibility, and trust—known collectively as the “five hearts.”
Throughout history, people who cultivated both love and strength through these values have quietly upheld Japan in every era.
The term Yamato Shigusa was named by Kumi Tsujinaka, a master of Yamato Shigusa Studies.
She has preserved and passed down not only its meaning and practices but also the ways of living and nurturing the heart that accompany it.

Yamato Shigusa is an ancient Japanese wisdom, carefully systematized so that we can understand and apply it in modern life. In Japan, traditional kata (forms) have been preserved for centuries, and behind every form lies a kokoro—a spirit or intention. To know the form, to know the spirit, and to put them into practice—that is where true learning begins.
Living abroad for many years, I have come to realize that this wisdom of nurturing the heart (or spirit) is not only for Japanese people, but something the whole world needs today.
This conviction has led me to offer workshops in English.
I believe the Japanese spirit can transcend borders, connect hearts, and create new bonds among people everywhere.
